Description

SUMMARY

This role is responsible for supporting production, safety, environmental compliance, employee management, quality, communication, reliability excellence, and continuous improvement in the OCC Warehouse. Additionally, this position may assist in paper mill operations as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  1. Lead and Manage the Performance and Efficiency of the OCC Warehouse

    • Monitor the quality of incoming fiber and coordinate with procurement.
    • Manage inventory to ensure regular turns, continuous feeding of fiber to the fiber line, and proper mixing for downstream production in the mill.
    • Oversee the bale audit compliance program, including moisture readings and fiber sampling.


  2. Manage OCC Handlers and Lead OCC Handler

    • Engage, motivate, and empower team members to establish a high-performing work culture.
    • Manage the training and evaluation of new employees, utilizing the Lead OCC Handler to assist with qualifications assessments.
    • Develop cross-training programs with operations and finished goods; collaborate with Production Manager, Transportation Manager, and Shift Supervisors on crew assignments.
    • Handle crew scheduling and personnel assignments for the OCC Warehouse.
    • Assist with recruiting OCC Handlers, including conducting interviews and participating in local job fairs.
    • Oversee employee evaluations (30/60/90 days, annual reviews) and retention recommendations.
    • Ensure efficient timekeeping, incident reporting, and staffing in the OCC Warehouse.


  3. Safety and Environmental Compliance

    • Work with the mill team to maintain a safe work environment and ensure environmental compliance.


  4. Cross-Departmental Collaboration

    • Collaborate across all departments to achieve mill operational and reliability excellence goals.


  5. Housekeeping Standards

    • Set and enforce housekeeping standards within the department.


  6. Special Projects

    • Manage special projects and assignments as required by the business.


  7. Confidentiality and Privacy

    • Ensure the maintenance, creation, and control of all confidential information, following all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA.




SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The OCC Warehouse Supervisor oversees the OCC Handlers and the Lead OCC Handler.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • Eligible to work in the US.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in containerboard or recycled containerboard manufacturing/operations/engineering, or 2-3 years of front-line supervisory leadership experience (preferred).
  • Effective problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Results-oriented with demonstrated initiative.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn business-specific software (SMS).
  • Strong customer focus, both internally with cross-functional teams and externally with stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of safety, health, and environmental practices.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS



  • Regularly required to stand for long periods and perform frequent bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive fine manipulation with hands.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Requires reaching with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to push/pull/lift up to 40 pounds unassisted; occasionally more with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close, distance, and depth vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT



  • Able to work in hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environments.
  • Willingness to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, earplugs, hard hat, steel-toed boots, and other personal protective equipment.
