Position Summary
This position will provide vital support to the department research enterprise. The role will contribute to advancing research and educational initiatives by assisting with academic research programs, promoting academic and community partnerships, tracking training program and partnership outcomes, and offering administrative support for grant management.

Duties & Responsibilities

Department Research
  • Assist with identifying and gathering valuable resources and opportunities for trainees' educational and career development purposes.
  • Develop evaluation metrics, instruments, and materials for training programs.
  • Assist with regulatory support, including protocols, evaluations, and other materials for IRB approval, amendments, and continuing review.
  • Monitor and track benchmarks and outcomes for pipeline programs using databases such as Redcap, Microsoft Excel, etc.
  • Contribute material, prepare scientific reports/presentations, and assist in writing research findings for papers, presentations, and other documents.
  • Identify, build and maintain working relationships with academic (internal and external) and community stakeholders to achieve the defined goals and objectives of the research training programs.
  • Assist Research Scientists/Principal Investigators with their federal or foundation grants applications and participate in publishing original research in peer-reviewed publications and assisting in grant writing and progress reports to funding agencies.
  • Assist in communications to funding agencies and internal and external stakeholders to support timely annual reports and compliance with grant requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance to partner organizations on data collection, management, and reporting.
  • Prepare high-quality, professional reports and presentations for various audiences using data visualization techniques.
  • Prepare and contribute statistical data and pertinent information for peer-reviewed publications, grants, and other documents.
  • Provide administrative lab support to the Associate Head, maintain lab meeting schedule and room reservations, etc.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partner organizations by emphasizing high-quality customer service and effective communication.

    Communication
  • Coordinate engagement efforts to support community dissemination and sustainability (e.g., research symposiums, Town Hall meetings, stakeholder meetings, etc.)
  • Plan, manage and implement educational activities that engage faculty and trainees, including monthly seminar speaker series, graduate research discussions, and journal club meetings.
  • Record and transcribe minutes for faculty meetings and research meetings.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned, including supporting and maintaining research operations, facilities, and activities conducted within the Lion Illinois Eye Research Institute (LIERI).


  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required.
    • A minimum of one year related research experience.
    • Knowledge of research concepts, practices and procedures.
