Milwaukee Tool is looking for an Associate Industrial Designer to join its in-house design team. This position is held by a designer with one to three years of professional design experience. Their main duties center around product development activities by exploring form, operation, aesthetics and interactions between the user and the product or system. The Associate Industrial Designer will work on under close guidance of another industrial designer but will report to the Lead ID or ID Manager.

You'll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • Explore concept generation through ideation, competitive assessments, and identification of unmet user needs.

  • Develop designs through paper and digital sketching, technical drawings, renderings, 2D illustrations and 3D CAD, and by hand-built mock-ups and models.

  • Learning to consider manufacturing and cost parameters. Communicate the design intent through visual storytelling to gain acceptance by project team.

  • Participate in brainstorming and concept generation events to establish opportunities to explore and develop.

  • Through the oversight of an industrial design mentor, collaborate with cross-functional teams, primarily marketing and engineering, to deliver designs based on established criteria.

  • Under the guidance of an industrial design mentor, create the documentation necessary to convey the design solution to management or cross functional partners through renderings, models, mechanical drawings, and written reports. Present designs for VIGOR milestone approval to marketing and engineering leadership.

  • Apply fundamentals of ergonomics and usability to the product solution.

  • Participate in internal research downloads, review of research reports and participation of hands-on activities related to projects. Occasionally participate in observational job site visits to gain understanding of user requirements.

  • Learn and abide by the Milwaukee visual brand language (VBL) guidelines.

  • Continually monitor design trends involving form, materials, technology etc.

  • Directly assists higher-level industrial designers in all capacities of the design process including conceptualization, documentation, model making etc. Work is of low difficulty and limited scope with specific and detailed instructions.

  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently.

  • Monitor project through preproduction stages to ensure detailing and design intent is intact.

What TOOLS you'll bring with you:

  • BA / BFA / BS, Major in Industrial Design

  • 1-3 years of professional experience?designing in a product development environment.

  • Proficient communication of process through visual thinking, storyboards, mock-ups, sketching, rendering, etc.
