Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the inspection of construction work performed by Louisville Water Company capital crews and contractors to ensure work performed is in accordance with Company plans, specifications, and permit conditions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintain records of construction materials for contracts in accordance with unit prices. Develop construction return records and drawings of the project installation as completed by the contractor or capital crew. Complete construction documents and verify all work is complete for payment. Once project is complete submit all required documentation to the appropriate departments. Maintain construction notes in Project Tracker software of inspection activities and significant events.

Stay abreast of field conditions that may cause the scope of work to change. Resolve problems with field adjustments and advise or obtain prior approval from the appropriate level of management when changes impact contract pricing, completion time, or alter the scope of work included in the contract.

Review project plans, specifications, permit conditions, shop drawings, and job site conditions. Review the scope of work, schedule of work, and construction methods with the contractor or capital crew prior to the start of a project and verify materials meet the approved shop drawing requirements.

For Kentucky Division of Water Agreed Order projects, provide certification that the project has been constructed in accordance with project plans and specifications.

Under the direction of Project Manager, Engineer, or Department Manager/Supervisor, schedule and coordinate contractor or capital crew activities affecting operation of the water system including but not limited to; water main shut-offs, pressure testing, disinfection, water sampling, and dichlorination according to Louisville Water Company procedures/work instructions.

Assist Project Manager, Engineer, or Department Manager/Supervisor in preparing cost estimates and project designs for various construction projects.

Respond to complaints from the public due to project work, in consultation with the Project Manager.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Generally, works 40-hours per week and is subject to weekend and night work in all weather conditions. Subject to hazardous work conditions. Position requires stooping, bending, climbing in and out of trenches, crawling into small confined areas, walking over various terrains, and lifting/carrying heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent; and

Two (2) years of underground utility, engineering, or construction experience; and

NICET Level I Certification, or KYDOW Class ID Distribution License, or KYDOW Class IA Water Treatment Operator's License, OR must obtain one of the above within six (6) months of placement in position. Failure to obtain one of the above within the required timeframe may result in removal from position or termination of employment; and

Complete Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) training, and Louisville Water safety training within six (6) months of placement in position. Failure to complete the training within the required timeframe may result in removal from position or termination of employment; and

Valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to understand and notate changes to construction plans (water, sewer, highway, site development).

Ability to apply mathematical principles, such as compiling, computing data, and calculating areas, volumes, and flow rates.

Ability to effectively communicate in all forms of verbal and written communication.

Ability to organize multiple projects at one time.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including: Word, Excel and Outlook.

General knowledge of engineering principles, water facilities materials and installation, and construction excavation practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate degree or four (4) years of equivalent experience, technical background and/or training.

In-depth knowledge of water facilities materials and installation, and construction excavation practices.

In-depth knowledge of LWC Technical Specifications and Standard Drawings for Pipeline Construction.

Plumbing and pipefitting experience.
