The Vice President (VP) - Legal Counsel is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing legal affairs within the organization. Responsible for handling a variety of assigned legal projects within the legal department, including primary responsibility for drafting, negotiating, analyzing, reviewing, and maintaining contracts, and providing legal advice to credit union executives and staff. The role requires an experienced legal professional with a strong background in financial services, contracts, and compliance. The VP will work closely with the EVP, CFO, to ensure that the credit union operates within the boundaries of applicable laws and regulations while safeguarding its contractual interests.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor of Arts/Science degree from an accredited university and JD Degree (from ABA accredited law school) required.
• Admission to the Florida Bar with an active membership in good standing required.
• NAFCU, CUNA, or America's Credit Unions certification as a credit union compliance professional is required.
• Ten (10) or more years of experience in drafting, analyzing and negotiating a wide variety of contracts including vendor agreements, service contracts, loan participations, and non-disclosure agreements required.
• Five (5) years of strategic leadership experience is preferred, including managing and coaching staff.
• Familiarity with regulations including Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Federal Reserve Board and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regulations, and National Credit Union Administration rules preferred.

• Use of computer requires repetitive keystrokes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This role is fully remote, with the option to work from our HQ or retail locations.
• Must be able to travel to Tampa, FL at least once a quarter.
