The Opportunity:

Join our dynamic team as an HVAC Specialist II. This position provides essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of campus buildings, aiming to ensure a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. You will troubleshoot issues, provide services, and respond to requests from customers and staff. This role requires readiness to address emergencies or unforeseen situations. Assignments may rotate to meet departmental needs and encourage cross-training. At this level, the ideal candidate has intermediate skills in HVAC and refrigeration systems including, but not limited to, water source heat pumps, direct expansion, and electrical and plumbing systems. The HVAC Specialist II ensures all components adhere to national and state codes and performs preventative maintenance and repairs to HVAC systems. On-call responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities:


  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems through planned and scheduled work orders.

  • Address corrective repairs promptly to restore functionality.

  • Calibrate controls to maintain design temperature and humidity.

  • Check refrigerant charges and pressures, ensuring compliance with EPA Section 608.

  • Conduct repairs on various HVAC components, including air systems, compressors, controls, and more.

  • Assist in project planning for asset maintenance.

  • Update and maintain data in the Integrated Work Management System (IWMS).

  • Fulfill work requests assigned through IWMS.

  • Train employees on tasks, standards, and customer service. Communicate with customers to ensure maintenance and safety meet expectations, performing quality checks as needed.

  • Schedule and provide safety training, monitor work practices, report accidents, and process workers' compensation claims as required. Manage work requests in line with SOPs and guidelines.

  • Review and manage all work orders, ensuring accurate data and effective scheduling. Coordinate with team members, vendors, customers, and inspectors to support smooth operations.


Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in heating, ventilation and/or air conditioning; or a high school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prefer candidates with 3-5 years of hands-on experience performing preventative and predictive maintenance on HVAC systems.

  • EPA Certification or training in HVAC maintenance practices is desirable.

  • Prefer candidates with practical experience in residential and light equipment, checking refrigerant charges and pressures, as well as handling and disposing of refrigerants safely.

  • Skilled in conducting repairs on a variety of HVAC components, including air systems, compressors, and controls.


Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination, and training in use of respirators.
