Position Summary:

Assembly Technicians at Shaffer/Peerless Food Equipment in Sidney, OH, play a vital role in building high-quality industrial food processing machinery. This role involves working with complex components, interpreting detailed technical drawings, and ensuring each assembled piece meets safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong manual skills, a focus on safety, and a commitment to producing reliable equipment for our customers.

Shift: 3rd Shift, Monday through Friday - 11pm to 7am

Overtime: When production demands require overtime, work hours may be extended from 9pm to 7am including possibility for Saturdays.

Work You'll Do:

  • Assemble Shaffer/Peerless Food Equipment's range of industrial food processing machines, including mixers, sandwiching equipment, and product handling systems, ensuring they meet quality and safety standards.
  • Follow detailed assembly procedures involving adjusting, trimming, and fitting parts with close tolerances, often working with complex and sometimes unique components.
  • Utilize various hand tools to assemble equipment, making precise adjustments to ensure proper fit, function, and compliance with specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, assembly sketches, and instructions to accurately build and verify equipment components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve assembly challenges on the spot, applying good judgment and problem-solving skills to keep production on track.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts by suggesting ways to improve assembly processes and maintain safety standards.
  • Prioritize safety by actively following safety protocols, participating in safety meetings, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Strive for high-quality workmanship, ensuring that assembled equipment functions correctly and meets all customer and company expectations before shipping.
  • Use good judgment to follow detailed instructions and resolve simple, routine problems in standard situations.

Team:

  • This role will be a part of the assembly team supporting the production process. Shaffer and Peerless Food Manufacturing are under the Coperion Food Equipment umbrella, and this position supports the collective efforts of these divisions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED, with formal trades training or at least two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety instructions, operation manuals, and technical drawings.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, including fractions and decimals.
  • Comfortability, experience, and skills to properly use hand & power tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and stand for up to 4 hours.
  • Comfortable working in a non-air-conditioned environment with loud noise levels and airborne particles.
  • Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and provide proof of legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal trades training or experience in mechanical assembly.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes or driving forklift trucks (training available).
  • Previous experience working with blueprints and assembly documentation.
