Job Summary: The Director of Social Services Training and Development is responsible for creating and implementing a Territorial Social Services training and development strategy. This role is vital to ensure that TSA colleagues are equipped with the critical skills and knowledge required to succeed in a fast-paced, competitive non-profit social service environment. Oversees the creation, implementation, management, and evaluation of training programs for employees and officers across The Salvation Army Western Territory. Focuses on increasing social service employee retention and driving operational excellence by assisting the TSSD in developing and implementing targeted onboarding processes, developing growth opportunities for social service leaders, and increasing collaboration with the field through training. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Training Strategy Development
- Develop a territorial training and development strategy for social services.
- Assist the TSSD in the development and implementation of a Territorial Training and Onboarding Process for Divisional Social Service Directors, Program Directors, and other key social service positions.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify training needs and skill gaps across all levels of the organization.
- Identify and develop core competencies for social service positions.
Educational Technology and Design
- Create a robust territorial social service-learning environment utilizing a learning management system (LMS) where territorial social service resources and on-demand training library reside.
- Provide training to help employees and officers effectively utilize the Territorial Training and Resource Library.
- Explore and expand the use of online/web-based training formats.
Training Design, Development, and Delivery
- Design, develop, and oversee the execution of training curricula that cater to different social service roles within the organization.
- Develop ongoing training programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Design and deliver engaging live and recorded training sessions across various formats.
- Create online training modules and e-learning tools such as Articulate.
- Manage the scheduling, facilitation, and delivery of training programs including in-person, virtual, and e-learning sessions.
- Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and other professionals to research topics and synthesize complex information into digestible training content tailored for specific audiences.
- Assume responsibility, as requested, or assigned, to plan, conduct and/or participate in workshops and other staff training events at the territorial, divisional or local level.
- Conducts or participates in lectures, seminars, or institutes at the College for Officer Training as requested.
Coaching & Consultation
- Provide coaching and best practice advice to trainers to ensure excellence and consistency in training delivery and provide technical assistance to support social service employees and officers in utilizing learning tools to instruct adult learners.
- Support other Territorial Social Service Department leaders in the design, development, and execution of training.
- Assist the TSSD in the creation of leadership development opportunities for social service directors in the field.
- Cultivate relationships with a diverse pool of trainers, facilitators, and vendors aligned with TSA's values.
- Create and collect essential employee profile data for social service leaders in the field.
Evaluation & Reporting
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback and performance metrics.
- Prepare and present regular reports on training outcomes and areas for improvement to TSSD.
- Review existing training programs to identify gaps and implement new training modules to address those gaps.
Conferences and Committees
- Assist the TSSD in the design, development, and implementation of Territorial Social Service Conferences.
- Participate in the DSSD group, Territorial Social Services Conference Committee, Territorial Training and Development Committee and other Territorial and National Committees as assigned.
- Participate in workshops and/or other training opportunities for other Salvation Army territories, divisions, or units as requested by the TSSD.
Other
- Identify and secure partnerships to provide high-impact training for the field at scale.
- Work with CRD to identify and secure capacity building grants to strengthen Territorial Social Service training and development efforts.
- Manage the budget allocated for social service training and development activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maximizing the impact of allocated resources.
- Provide supervision for social work student interns, as requested, or assigned.
Education and Work Experience:
- Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Public Administration (MPA) and/or Master of Learning and Development or comparable graduate degree from an accredited college or university highly preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in developing and delivering training and/or educational content is required, with a preference of five years or more.
- Experience coordinating training conferences desired.
- Experience with content development independently and with other subject matter experts for presentations, videos, guides, and tutorials.
- Experience in developing online training modules and utilization of a learning management system is highly preferred.
- Experience in instructional design and developing micro training is highly preferred.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment or in assigned program locations in the field. A full-time exempt position may require some weekend and evening work as needed. Travel, including overnight, will be required occasionally. Travel will primarily be related to training or conference events. Only necessary travel to sites will be approved and must be pre-approved by the supervisor. Any travel away from the officially designated office setting must be scheduled and approved in advance.
