Who You'll Work With
You will be part of McKinsey's Client Service Risk (CSR) function. Client Service Risk's mission is to enable McKinsey's client impact and innovation, while managing risks to our clients, people and firm.
You will be based in one of our US offices and you will be a core member of the North America Client Service Risk team. In this role you will report to the Global Health of Life Sciences Risk through colleagues responsible for leading the Life Sciences risk teams in the United States and Canada. You will work closely with CSR colleagues in both risk advisory and strategy & operations roles and with client service partners and colleagues in other professional functions, including Legal, Compliance and Communications.
Your impact within our firm
As a Risk Specialist supporting Life Sciences , you will be part of the team charged with providing strategic, integrative advice to client service teams and Sector leaders in the Life Sciences sector, which includes clients across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical technology spaces.
In this role you will identify, analyze, and resolve client service risk questions (e.g., questions involving client and engagement risk evaluation for all potential Life Sciences engagements) and advise client-serving teams on risk mitigation steps. You will prepare case briefings and recommendations for the Client Service Risk Committee (CSRC) or associated bodies thereof, as well as lead the evaluation and review of high-risk engagements. You will also lead the review of material recommendations and client deliverables in collaboration with our Legal, Compliance, and Communications colleagues.
You will work closely with professional function colleagues to develop and improve risk practices and protocols, and support efforts to increase awareness and training within the sectors. You will also be responsible for timely and accurate record-keeping.
The successful candidate will combine a risk-ownership mindset and excellent problem-solving skills and judgment, to manage increasingly complex issues and to develop into a trusted counselor to client service partners. This role requires scientific expertise, strong attention to detail, agility, well-developed critical thinking skills and a collaborative working style.
Your qualifications and skills
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree or PhD in Life Sciences preferred
  • 2+ years' professional experience in the pharmaceutical, professional services, or healthcare industry, with a preference for scientific, regulatory, or risk/compliance experience
  • Demonstrated record of subject matter expertise in key subject areas (e.g., Life Sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, scientific communication, regulatory risk, public relations)
  • Broad knowledge of the US pharmaceutical industry and regulatory landscape, including R&D trends, business functional areas, and current regulatory and compliance requirements Experience in pharmaceutical pricing, market access, or pharmaceutical AI/GenAI is a plus
  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated entrepreneurial drive
  • Experience balancing and executing multiple priorities at once; ability to prioritize
  • Strong personal presence and credibility; excellent listening skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to review documents on topics across the pharmaceutical industry and craft clear, concise, and pragmatic answers catered to specific internal and external audiences
  • A collaborative and cooperative mindset toward working with various stakeholders, including colleagues in CSR, other professional functions, and client-facing teams; including the ability to serve as a trusted counselor and advisor across Life Sciences topics

For new joiners for this role in Canada and/or the United States, including all office locations where the job may be performed, a reasonable estimated range is $112,900 - $176,800 in USD and $125,600 - $157,000 in CAD - to help you understand what you can expect. This reflects our best estimate of the lowest to highest salary for this role at the time of this posting, ensuring you have a clear picture right from the start, though it's important to remember that actual salaries may vary. Factors like your office location, your unique blend of experience and skills, start date and our current organizational needs all play a part in determining the final figure. Certain roles are also eligible for bonuses, subject to McKinsey's discretion and based on factors such as individual and/or organizational performance.
