Job Description

The Conservatory at the University of Missouri - Kansas City invites applications for the position of a full-time, tenure eligible, Assistant Professor of Costume Design beginning Fall 2025.

Principal duties for the Assistant Professor of Costume Design include:

  • Teaching, mentoring, and advising students in Costume Design at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • This hire will supervise and mentor students in their design and construction work, to build skills across all Divisions in the Conservatory, including collaborations with Music and Dance.
  • This faculty member is expected to maintain or develop a national profile as a professional artist and/or scholar who can connect classroom experiences to professional practice.
  • In addition to teaching and creative work, active participation in shared faculty governance and service within the Conservatory, and University is expected.

This is a tenure-track, full-time, benefit-eligible, nine-month ranked academic appointment. The appointment starts Fall of 2025.

Qualifications

Terminal degree in the field or equivalent professional experience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong record of professional work in theatre and/or design for the screen and new media.

All candidates will have a record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work. We are seeking an individual who can teach all aspects of the costume design process as well as costume history and some aspects of technology.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity
