Job Summary

The Data Systems Analyst 3 is an experienced Information Technology Professional; responsible for investigating, designing, and implementing data systems in preparation for assigned projects and/or for use within clinical research. This position is responsible for the maintenance and support of applications and tools such as Clinical Trials Management Systems (REDCap, OnCore), Biorepositories (FreezerWorks, LIMS Systems), Faculty Profile Management Systems (Elsevier Pure), Investigational Drug Management Systems, and more. The Data Systems Analyst 3 also manages data source acquisition, ETL (extract, transform, and load) processes, and application development for a variety of projects.

This position creates and supports reports for multiple clinical data systems including Epic/Clarity, REDCap, SQL, and Oracle databases. A degree in Health Informatics, Public Health, or Computer Science is preferred. Work and decisions are reviewed in terms of meeting objectives when performed within the accepted parameters of UCD/UCDHS policies and procedures and the general guidelines of the department. However, innovative solutions to application problems are discussed with and approved by the unit managers, particularly those that affect the accountability of the unit and coordination of work. Incumbent interacts with operating systems and data management systems, and has independent responsibility for clinical data warehousing applications related t assigned projects and associated grants; developing and maintaining interfaces with separate data systems; and provides specification development for each component of the project infrastructure. This position will work with Health System and Clinical and Translation Science Center data management applications, which may include REDCap, J2EE, Java, Oracle, SQL Server, various open-source applications, and select vendor and custom interface engines. This position also serves as the lead project manager on specific projects.

Minimum Qualifications- For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, Public Health, Computer Information systems, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the analysis, retrieval and management of clinical data from a healthcare software system
  • Minimum 1 year experience maintaining and supporting clinical systems such as Clinical Trials Management Systems, Biorepositories, Electronic Data Capture Systems, Faculty Profile Management Systems, or Investigation Drug Management Systems
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with standardized healthcare codes (e.g., ICD, COT, LOINC, SNOMED).
  • Minimum 1 year experience with various programming languages and software such as SQL, MySQL, Oracle, stored procedures, Python, Tableau, Business Objects
  • Familiar with the use of secure file sharing such as SFTP, and understanding of best practices in data management, data security, and data privacy within clinical systems
  • Familiar with electronic health record systems, such as EPIC
  • Familiar with data integration, data repository design, and management of enterprise data repository systems * Working knowledge of Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) applications
  • Maintenance and support of Clinical Trials Management Systems, Biorepositories , Faculty Profile Management Systems, Investigational Drug Management Systems, or other clinical system.
  • Analyzing and evaluating specifications; and then designing and creating custom SQL code to meet objectives. o SQL, PL/SQL, SAS, or MySQL o Data integration, data repository design, and management of enterprise data repository systems. o Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL)
  • Writing Stored Procedures. o Electronic health record systems, such as EPIC
  • Data management, data security and privacy within clinical systems
  • Developing and designing technical requirements appropriate to the business needs and objectives.
  • Experienced in developing reporting and analytics for internal and external use in a business unit.

  • Writing skills needed to translate system processes and associated manual processes into clear instructions and explanations.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and flexibility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Developing innovative coding solutions and design requirements to resolve complex business issues.
  • Interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals to secure and/or provide information to clarify situations, resolve problems, and negotiate services and/or agreements.

Department Overview

The UC Davis Health, Research IT Unit coordinates and implements clinical studies, technology grants, and technology projects with Principal Investigators, university partners, pharmaceutical companies, governmental agencies, and a variety of commercial companies. Housed within the UC Davis Health Information Technology (IT) Division, in partnership with the School of Medicine and the Clinical and Translational Science Center Biomedical Informatics Program (CTSC), this unit provides enterprise database support, computing infrastructure, and technology support services to UC Davis' nationally recognized business and research initiatives.
