Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

The Aireon Internship Program is an opportunity for students to be a part of the Aireon teams that are making groundbreaking advancements in global air traffic surveillance. As an Intern, you'll begin making an impact on real projects from day one! Come prepared to grow, develop, and learn alongside a team and the leaders of our company.The Aireon Internshipprogram is a 12-week program that runs from May 27, 2025 to August 15, 2025. During the program, interns will have the opportunity to provide valuable support to an Aireon department on a project or important work assignment. Interns will also be provided an opportunity to engage with senior leadership and fellow interns through regular engagement activities.

This internship offers a unique opportunity for individuals interested in data engineering, focusing on Python and Spark development. Interns will gain hands-on experience building and optimizing large-scale data processing systems, learning to leverage Python and Apache Spark for efficient data handling and analysis. The program aims to equip interns with practical skills in data engineering, including data ingestion, processing, and pipeline optimization. Throughout the internship, participants will work on real-world projects, enabling them to understand the challenges and solutions in big data. The goal is to prepare interns for a successful career in data engineering, providing them with the knowledge and experience necessary to contribute effectively in a professional environment.

What You'll Do

    Data Handling: Ingesting and processing data, involving cleaning, transformation, and preparation
  • Pipeline Development: Assisting in building and maintaining data pipelines using Databricks
  • Azure Cloud Services: Utilizing Azure tools for data management and analysis
  • Coding and Review: Writing and reviewing Python and Spark code for efficiency and best practices
  • Team Collaboration: Participating in meetings and collaborative sessions for project discussions
  • Learning and Development: Engaging in activities to enhance your data engineering skills
  • Testing and Debugging: Ensuring data pipeline reliability and performance
  • Documentation and Monitoring: Documenting processes and monitoring pipeline performance

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's or graduate degree program at an accredited academic institution
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.

About the Team

  • You will collaborate with the Principal Data Engineer and data scientists/analysts to design data analytics solutions. The Principal Data Engineer will discuss data pipeline and operations solutions with you and provide guidance and mentorship throughout the project.
