Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
Launched in 2013, the Department of Applied Physical Sciences (
APS) is the first new science department in the College of Arts and Sciences in nearly 40 years. Including the Chapel Hill Analytical and Nanofabrication Laboratory (
CHANL) and the graduate program in material sciences, Applied Physical Sciences has united numerous scientific entities on campus to further its mission of finding interdisciplinary solutions to real-world problems. Its newest endeavor, BeAM (Be A Maker), is a university-wide initiative that incorporates Making into research, education, and entrepreneurship. BeAM is comprised of several spaces, including a makerspace in Hanes Art Center, Carmichael Residence Hall, and a 3,400 square foot Makerspace in Murray Hall, all of which serve the entire
UNC community. |
Position Summary |
This position in Professor Jinsong Huang's group in the Department of Applied Physical Sciences at
UNC Chapel Hill is part of a dynamic research group with focus on perovskite materials and devices. The Huang group has state of the art facility with recently renovated labs, including four research rooms for material process, material characterization, device fabrication, scaling up, optical and electronic measurements. The Huang group provides support for personal career development for a win-win scenario. This position will work on improving the performance of perovskite solar cells by understanding the materials, interfaces, and device fabrication. Although device performance is the goal of the research in many projects, fundamental understanding is the soul of this group. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Hands on experience in perovskite materials and operation of associated lab equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with lab instruments, ensuring efficient operation and resolving technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams, contributing to project design and development.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, with the capacity to conceptualize ideas and think independently to drive research advancements.
- Willingness to take on a variety of roles, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic research environment.
- Ability to identify potential hazards in the lab and adhere to safe work practices.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to present information concisely and manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to work effectively with a diverse group of people.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Have training in inorganic chemistry, physical material science, material science engineering, physical chemistry, photo physics, Perovskite Solar Cell, and solid-state physics. |
