The Director, Revenue Cycle Management (RCM)Vendor Strategy is accountable for partnering with Enterprise Procurement to select and manage preferred RCM partners. Their primary function will be to lead Optum Health's RCM vendor strategy and performance function that supports over >$4B in annual enterprise spend. This role will lead the partnership, innovation, and day-to-day oversight of performance of our largest strategic revenue cycle management and technology partners serving our various Optum Health markets.

This is a high visibility role where influencing internal and external key stakeholders within and outside of RCM will be critical to success. The successful candidate will need to partner with their assigned market and work closely with market leadership to manage budgets and track performance against financial and operational goals. This leader will collaborate with both market leaders and finance leaders in various regions to ensure that vendor strategies are tailored to local needs and customer demands, ensuring the strategy is both globally scalable and regionally adaptable. This candidate will work closely with Optum compliance to ensure all vendor agreements align with company policies and meet regulatory requirements to help mitigate any offshore risk. This leader must be passionate about customer service and a service first culture, driving value and performance improvements related to Optum Health's vendor performance. This candidate must possess deep knowledge of all RCM functions and their dependencies on other functions. The ideal candidate is a recognized industry leader in ambulatory healthcare setting procurement, revenue cycle operations and possesses a track record of value creation, complex problem solving, innovation, and service excellence with strategic supplier categories.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Displays solid collaboration skills and a service excellence / servant leadership mentality
  • Demonstrates history of delivering value with strategic partners within RCM
  • Forms high performance relationships with Care Delivery Organizations (CDOs), enterprise teams, subject experts and external vendor partners
  • Partners with procurement to assess local, national and international suppliers, solutions, and capabilities to forecast future needs and serves as the core business expert outlining business requirements and needs
  • Measures and evaluates RCM KPIs intimately, and if metrics are not meeting enterprise expectations, work with third party vendor to understand how to improve performance and remove any barriers if they exist
  • Acts as the key liaison to our offshore vendor suppliers to create standard operating procedures to hold them accountable to top tier performance
  • Communicates efficiently with our markets and identifies when there are obstacles or barriers to success and works directly with our suppliers to solution appropriately
  • Displays solid speaking skills with ability to know the measures & share with market presidents, national leaders, operations and finance
  • Demonstrates exceptional experience in vendor relationships interacting with senior vendor leaders and works collaboratively with partners
  • Delivers industry leading contracts, cost, performance support for Optum Health CDOs and businesses
  • Provides leadership support in escalating risks or issues
  • Leads or participates in leads governance forums, cross-functional teams and/or projects
  • Supports stakeholders in escalated and/or high impact performance issues with vendors
  • Handles multiple projects simultaneously and ensures overall and timely completion of tasks
  • Present performance data (e.g. KPI's, issue trending, etc.) at various Governance level meetings for high-medium risk vendors

Required Qualifications:



  • 10+ years of Revenue Cycle Management experience
  • Demonstrated successful completion of standing up a performance driven RCM organization
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with RCM management functions (sourcing, contracting, supplier management)
  • Demonstrated success in delivering savings or value


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Proven service-oriented servant leader focused on exceeding customer expectations with the ability to influence all levels of Care Delivery and Supplier organizations
  • Proven excellent communicator (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated ability to create value for customers in the form of savings, efficiency, and quality improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze spend, identify opportunities, and communicate detailed expected results to partnering teams

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
