The Senior Research Specialist will play a pivotal role in advancing groundbreaking cancer research through collaborative projects between the DeFigueiredo and Chabu laboratories. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative studies focused on how engineered bacterial strains target and remodel the tumor immune microenvironment in solid cancers. Key Responsibilities:

• Perform in vitro and in vivo experiments to evaluate the efficacy of genetically engineered bacterial strains in mouse cancer models.
• Conduct bacterial colonization and tumor immune profiling studies.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate bacterial therapies with existing chemotherapies and immunotherapies.
• Prepare studies and reports summarizing research findings.
• Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, grant applications, and progress reports.
• Support junior scientist and laboratory technicians by assisting with training in experimental techniques, adherence to protocols, and fostering a collaborative laboratory environment.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring a strong conceptual understanding of microbiology and/or cancer immunology with proficiency in immune cell-profiling techniques such as FACS, as evidenced by their published work. Exceptional problem-solving skills and a passion for discovery are essential.

Generally, 40 hours Monday - Friday with flexible hours with supervisor approval. Occasional travel may be involved but not required.

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

• Master's degree in Cancer Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, or a related field.
• Experience in microbial or tumor immunology.
• Experience with in vivo cancer models.
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques.
• Working knowledge of mouse cancer models and handling.
• Expertise in bacterial engineering and microbial therapies.

Salary Range: $58,000 to $63,000 per year
