Position Summary:

The Category Manager is responsible for increasing market share and revenue across all types of customers by effectively managing the product portfolio, publications, promotions, and vendor relationships. This role requires the incumbent to possess and continuously develop deep knowledge about assigned product lines, serving as a resource for customers, sales, and the company. The Category Manager will identify trends and drive opportunities, enhancing the company's strategic position within the market.

Strategic Planning and Execution:



  • Develop and implement category-specific strategies that align with the Company's overall business objectives and growth goals
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, challenges and opportunities within the category and industry in general
  • Collaborate with sales, marketing and product teams to design and execute business plans


Relationship Management:



  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders (cross-functional)
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers and vendors to maximize value with appropriate resources
  • Represent the company and attend industry events and conferences as required


Performance Analysis:



  • Monitor the performance of categories assigned and access their impact on business goals, along with counterparts that manage adjacent categories
  • Analyze categories assigned to drive sku optimization
  • Provide detailed reports and recommendations based on analytics and market insights (using Qlik, SDM & other market data)
  • Adapt strategies in response to market changes and organizational feedback


Leadership and Collaboration:



  • Oversee the planning, creation, implementation and tracking of all marketing programs and advertising promotions in coordination with the marketing plan: including but not limited to target mailings, specialty flyers, sampling promotions, up-sell promotions, social media campaigns, internal publications, web-based advertising and external publications and spiff management
  • Work with new and existing vendor partners to navigate through the end-to-end launch process, securing all necessary paperwork/tools/collateral for an effective launch
  • Lead pricing analysis and work with analytics to achieve the best balance between increased profit margins and increased sales
  • Attend regional meetings, co-travel with territory representatives, equipment specialists, field technicians, and vendor representatives, and make vendor site visits; all aimed at educating the sales team and understanding their needs to help marketing provide ongoing value in assisting the company in growing and maintaining our market share
  • Collaborate with other Marketing Category Managers to drive awareness
  • Communicate and effectively present to vendors, Benco regional teams, and others as needed to relay Benco goals, product data, and other information that supports growth, education, and strengthening of relationships
  • Work in conjunction with the Supply Chain team to understand Vendor Scorecard and ensure product launches and ongoing sales are balanced with appropriate inventory levels
  • Lead focus groups as needed to grow market share in specific product lines and/or improve execution of marketing activities related to growing market share
  • Co-travel based on department needs as directed by their direct manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department and company
  • Meet budgetary objectives and adjust (when applicable) for certain GLs


Overall Business Acumen:



  • Understand and present The Benco Story, including overall company results, strategic pillars and initiatives
  • Lead presentations with external and internal customers

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing or related field
