As a Color Product Developer, you will work cross functionally to formulate and develop new colors derived from natural sources that meet customer application requirements and align with Cal Color's goals to grow the color business. You will provide technical support to sales, marketing, research, and operations teams to enable a better understanding of the needs and requirements of current and potential customers.

What You Will Do

Innovation

  • Independently conducts research, collects experimental data, and analyzes and interprets results.
  • Formulates and develops new products and experimental blends that can be commercialized to meet customer specific requests.
  • Participates in the development and commercialization of new products and experimental blends to support portfolio expansion.
  • Designs and implements experiments and trials for new products/process development.
  • Works to continuously refine and develop new analytical methods to accurately define the features and benefits of our products.
  • Attends industry technical seminars to further Cal Color competitive advantage.

Customer Support and Applications

  • Provides technical support to the sales team by making product presentations and generating data for technical data sheets.
  • Present technical presentations to customers when needed to support sales objectives.
  • Independently conducts literature and market research to identify and produce samples of applications for new and existing products.
  • Provides technical and research assistance and application support to potential and existing customers and strategic partners. Presents findings to upper management and/or customer.

Other

  • Participates in interdepartmental planning and customer interactions to maximize California Natural Color's profits and long-term viability.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

What You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science, plus 3 years of laboratory food and beverage research experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility OR Master's degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science, plus 1 year of laboratory food and beverage research experience.
  • Experience in designing, planning, and executing experiments.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint at a basic level.
  • Required to work overtime when necessary.
  • Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. This may be in addition to travel requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science, plus 4 years laboratory food and beverage research experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility or Master's degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Enology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Food Processing, or Food Science, plus 2 years of laboratory food and beverage research experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience with food ingredient processing techniques such as emulsions, drying, filtration, extraction, evaporation.
  • Experience with colors from natural sources in a diverse range of applications (beverage, confection, dairy, etc.)

Compensation:

  • Hiring Salary Range Posted: $73,700 - $110,500 / year.
  • Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by factors such as the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
