This is a Swing Shift Schedule Located in Hampton, VA, Sentara Careplex Hospital provides advanced programs, specialized services, and is home to the area's first dedicated orthopedic hospital. We focus on attention to detail to keep our patients safe. The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA/CSFA) works as a 1st or 2nd assistant to the surgeon and under the direction and supervision of that surgeon may perform specific significant surgical tasks. Anticipating the needs of the surgical team, the Certified Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, set up of various tables and positioning equipment, providing retraction for visualization of surgical site, cauterization of bleeding vessels, suturing and closure of incision, instillation of medications, application of surgical dressings, splints, and casts. The surgical assistant has responsibilities before, during and after the surgical procedure. The surgical assistant uses effective interdisciplinary communication to facilitate optimal patient outcomes. Qualifications: Graduate of CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited Surgical Assistant Program is required. Graduate of medical school (foreign or domestic) may be substituted for education if currently certified or Credentialed as a Surgical Assistant or Surgical First Assistant issued by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or the National Commission for Certification of Surgical Assistants or their successors in lieu of CAAHEP Surgical Assistant Program. Must obtain Certified Surgical First Assistant or Certified Surgical Assistant certification within 6 months of hire if not available at hire. All current Virginia SAs and applicants must be certified and licensed through the Virginia Board of Medicine. Benefits:
