DSG is seeking an Electrical Purchasing Agent in either our Plymouth, MN or Fargo, ND location. As a Purchasing Agent, you will help achieve the desired key results through the effective management of DSG's inventory investment. Some travel to other branches, trade shows, and training opportunities may be required.

A Typical Day in the Life of an Electrical Purchasing Agent at DSG:

  • Maintains high in-stock rates by meeting or exceeding company targets
  • Ensures health of inventory by meeting or exceeding company turns and excess percentage targets
  • Reviews product pricing, ensuring correct cost, quantities, units of measure and descriptions.
  • Stays current on market pricing and stays competitive by taking advantage of special pricing, terms, freight, discounts, dating, rebates, and returned goods programs on items purchased
  • Analyzes reports for demand, order points, unusual movement, stock-outs, overstock or excess inventory
  • Determines the best shipping method for the customer and the Company.
  • Communicates price changes to the Vendor Pricing Team
  • Monitors overdue purchase orders, updates estimated delivery dates and communicates with sales teams on crucial items
  • Maintains good relationships with suppliers to ensure the company receives favorable terms and competitive costs from suppliers
  • Maintains a strong knowledge and understanding of current market conditions, relays relevant information to the Purchasing Manager
  • Works with Product Maintenance Team to ensure accurate product files in all aspects: item description, minimum package, unit of measurement, etc.
  • Clearly understands all aspects of the main computer's operating system's purchasing module, including the ramifications of parameter settings
  • Maintains a high level of product knowledge
  • Resolves price discrepancies with vendors, vendor pricing team and the Accounts Payable team to assure proper vendor billing and maximize cash discounts for the company
  • Performs other duties as assigned

A Successful Electrical Purchasing Agent Typically Has:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, with secondary or post-secondary coursework concentrated in a related field, OR equivalent, relevant, on the job experience.
  • 3-5 years' experience in purchasing and/or inventory management.
  • Strong business acumen and an understanding of supply chain management and the workflow of wholesale distribution.
  • Proven proficiency in computers and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, customer service and communication skills across a variety of settings (in-person, phone, and email).
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • The ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Prior experience interpreting business reports and performance metrics.
