The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

Job Profile Summary:

The Associate Software Engineer Intern assists in the research, design, development, analysis, testing, and implementation of software operating or application systems. Role is an internship/apprenticeship model to advance the candidates' technical capabilities as well as to provide mentorship to enhance the individual's personal development. Communicates project information to client, project manager, or other design personnel working on projects. Writes and maintains complete documentation and may support more experienced developers in documentation. Supports team members and ensures established goals and deadlines are met. Keeps management informed of status and significant problems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Agile team members and assist in developing web applications and web services using Java, SOAP, REST, XML, HTTP, and other web technologies.
  • Manage multiple tasks and responsibilities, suggesting solutions &/or resolving problems in early project stages to avoid cost/time expenses
  • Assist on delivering high quality projects on time, through ability to low level design architecture, write high quality code, and execute effective unit tests
  • Assist in the integration of third-party products with existing infrastructure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work equally well in self-managed and team-based Agile projects
  • Assist other engineers to work with internal customers to gather business processes and project requirements
  • Research and make recommendations with design and develops computer software systems, in conjunction with hardware product development/applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis
  • Seek guidance and collaborate on software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
  • Consults with infrastructure engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interface between cloud and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system
  • Develops software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation.
  • Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained
  • Performs miscellaneous projects as assigned, assisting engineers as needed
  • Aggressively seek new knowledge, skills, and abilities as it relates to software engineering

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent degree or current enrollment in a software engineering program
  • Basic technical skills needed to complete routine assignments
  • Fundamental understanding of java, html, css, javascript or python
  • Able to use git to work with code repositories

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a computer science BS degree program and currently in at least the 3rd year of the program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
