Under the direction of the Dean this position works under broad, administrative direction with significant responsibility in planning, organizing, and managing services associated with academic advising, outreach, admissions, assessment, orientation, mentoring, and scheduling. Assists the Dean with responding to from university departments, educational institutions, the community, students, and/or external agencies.

The Associate Dean is expected to demonstrate ethical leadership and prioritize student success in all aspects of their role. The Associate Dean supports the Dean in evaluating program performance, emphasizing continuous improvement in student success metrics, including persistence, progression, and completion.

Responsibilities:



  • Promotes the reputation and differentiated offerings of the school and university.
  • Assists with the implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement for courses, programs, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Assist with the maintenance, reaffirmation and expansion for accreditations, including specialty accredited programs (if applicable), certifications and certificates.
  • Supports the onboarding, orientation, and ongoing training of staff and faculty in the school.
  • Collaborates with the Dean to uphold and enhance teaching quality, course quality, and faculty performance across the school.
  • Leads efforts in course and program assessment, ensuring continuous improvement aligned with institutional and program learning outcomes
  • Ensures effective teaching and learning through management and oversight for academic excellence.
  • Oversees benchmarking analyses.
  • Provides leadership for initiatives to enhance student engagement, retention, and overall satisfaction
  • Coordinates and leads school-level initiatives, including faculty committees, rank advancement, awards, and persistence programs
  • Facilitates faculty committee meetings and activities.
  • Represents the School in the graduate mentoring project and at marketing content meetings.
  • Coordinates the activities for meetings (i.e. Faculty Meetings, Faculty Chair Meetings, New Student Orientation, School CurCom).
  • Facilitates the process for special initiatives such as Rank Advancement, Faculty Awards, Student Awards, and Persistence (UWFI Activities).
  • Maintains voting status on appropriate school and university curriculum committees.
  • Assist the Dean with grant writing and securing funding for special projects.
  • Reviews the initial drafts of CurCom proposals, especially new programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the school's goals and priorities.


Requirements:



  • Strong oral, written, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of curriculum development and improvement processes.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and learning theory principles in the online environment.
  • Knowledge of student success approaches to increase retention, persistence, progression and completion.
  • Ability to build relationships and partnerships in academia, business, industry, and government.
  • Ability to make ethical decisions and promote the highest standards of personal and professional integrity.
  • Proactive, innovative problem-solving and adaptability to ambiguity.
  • Ability to lead teams, promote collegiality, and resolve conflicts effectively.

  • Proven experience with student success initiatives.
  • Proven experience with specialty accreditation processes, if applicable.
  • 5 years: Academic leadership experience as department chair, program director, or similar academic supervisory position at the university level.
  • 3 years: Experience with online education in higher education.
  • Doctorate required


    Preferred Experience:

    *Professional experience in disciplinary organizations, as appropriate.
    *Successful grant writing and funding experience.
    *Experience with developing external partnerships.
