Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The Assistant Director for Administration and Graduate Student Employment is responsible for strategic financial planning and process development for allocation of assistantship resources to attract and retain high-caliber graduate students who drive research and innovation at the university. The Assistant Director directs the graduate student hiring process for campus, coordinates and leads discussions with leadership of academic colleges and schools regarding graduate student hiring processes and allocation of assistantship resources.
The Assistant Director oversees processes related to graduate student and postdoctoral hiring. As a content expert in university,
SACSCOC,
UNC System, State and Federal guidelines and rules around employment and aid, the Assistant Director communicates, reviews compliance, maintains and updates policies and procedures around graduate student and postdoc employment and funding.
The Assistant Director also collaborates with
GCLE leadership in short-term and long-term space and facility planning. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
A Bachelors degree with at least 1 year of supervisory experience and 5+ years of relevant experience. |
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience |
- Fundamental knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure.
- Experience in complex project management.
- Familiarity with human resources processes and policies, especially in a higher education context
- Familiarity with budget processes and policies in a complex organization.
- Familiarity with Banner Finance and Banner HR reporting systems.
- Experience in managing a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage data and data reporting.
- Ability to lead and supervise business services staff through two-way communication and a team-based approach.
- Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate technical material to a variety of audiences orally and in writing.
- Knowledge and understanding of university resource needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of university funding models.
- Ability to understand and utilize modeling and analytic techniques to develop financial and enrollment projections.
- Experience with financial and data-management software and the ability to quickly learn new systems as the campus implements them
