Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking Research Teaching Specialist IV for the department of Psychiatry at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences is seeking a highly motivated Research Teaching Specialist for the Affective and Clinical Neuroscience Lab (Lab Director: Avram Holmes, PhD), housed within the Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research and the Department of Psychiatry. Research in the lab focuses on the establishment of biological and environmental predictors of psychiatric illness risk. Duties include, but are not limited to, subject recruitment, data acquisition using behavioral and neuroimaging techniques (
MRI), data entry, coding, database management, some data analyses, and overseeing subject reimbursements. This position will offer exposure to diverse subject populations, including psychiatric patients, in a lab that employs genetic, systems neuroscience, and clinical techniques. The work entailed requires a high degree of motivation and self sufficiency, although extensive training and supervision will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated student to gain experience and knowledge of neuroimaging techniques in preparation for a graduate career. This is a full-time salaried position.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- As directed, performs various research and technical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory, with a specific focus on MRI research of cognitive and emotional processes.
- Performs MRI studies. Duties may include operation of task stimulation, eye tracking, and assistance in operation of the MRI scanner.
- Helps coordinate subject recruitment and data management.
- Assists investigators in the implementation of cognitive tasks and stimulation paradigms for use in functional MRI and cognitive neuroscience studies.
- Assists in conducting a continuous program of research and development regarding the functions of the laboratory. Participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
- Assists with the maintenance of study documents and data including sensitive data containing confidential information. Assists with communication with the Institutional Review Board.

Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's Degree in a relevant science, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus one (1) year of related research experience.
- Experience with data analysis, data management or computer coding may also be counted as related research experience.
