We are looking for world-class talent to join our team as a Production Superintendent in Lake Charles, LA. In this role, you will responsible for directly supervises the Unit Performance Engineers, Shift Supervisors and Operations Supervisors along with indirectly supervising Operators. Along with the Production Manager, responsible for developing and managing cost and profit plans for their area of responsibility. This includes an expense and production forecast consisting of operating rates, fuel requirements, various operational supplies and services, and yield efficiencies for the year along with an estimate of capital requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Establish safety and housekeeping goals and objectives for the production plant.
  • Responsible for environmental compliance issues.
  • Ensure that solutions to operational and mechanical problems are actively and aggressively pursued, particularly with regard to operating continuity.
  • Responsible for managing external customer relationships between PPG Silica's and LACC.
  • Promoting teamwork, resolving conflict and building strong work relationships as well as providing training and counseling for his or her staff.
  • Staff inform staff about changes in the business climate, environmental regulations, labor policy, quality considerations and conditions in other plants that could affect operations.
  • On 24-hour call to support the plant during problems or emergencies.
  • Understanding of electrical power and steam generation and distribution systems including; natural gas fired combustion turbine generators and HRSG's preferred. These systems provide electrical power and steam to onsite continuous chemical processes.
  • Understanding of complex continuous chemical manufacturing operations and state-of-the-art computerized control systems. These systems operate large scale and dynamic mechanical and fluid systems containing hazardous chemicals powered by high energy systems.
  • Work with capital engineering group to develop/execute a capital investment strategy for the unit.
  • Work with corporate to maximize unit profitability through power sales and efficient gas purchasing.
  • Coordinate with the site logistics to align Powerhouse maintenance strategy and timing with the site's steam and power demand.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • B. S. degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related Engineering degree required.
  • A minimum of 8 years chemical production experience preferred.
  • Experience in Power/Chlor-Alkali/Vinyl processes preferred.
  • Strong technical background with manufacturing and technical experience in plant operations.
  • A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
  • Self- confident, a strong communicator, skilled in management techniques, and willing to accept significant responsibility
  • Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
