HOURS: Part-time to full-time depending on candidate's availability/3 months in length

The Capital Projects Management Office with Dakota County is pleased to announce the availability of a Capital Projects Intern who will work with digital files, often in AutoCad, to update current site, floor and furniture plans and other tasks as assigned. This will include site verification of existing conditions and other paper and electronic file maintenance. We are seeking an enthusiastic professional to join a work group committed to making Dakota County a great place to live and work.

This is a temporary position for three months with an opportunity to extend based on needs and work performance. Work hours will be 20-40 hours a week depending on the candidate's availability. The person in this position will work in CPM's offices in Hastings with project managers, support staff and/or archivists. Some remote work may be possible depending on needed tasks and candidates' abilities.

Dakota County has a Facilities Department which plans, manages and maintains all of its buildings, parks and trails. The Capital Projects Management (CPM) office is the part of Facilities that handles the planning, design and construction of the 1.5 million square foot of buildings and hundreds of acres of park and trail development. Dakota County is a rapidly growing county with a mix of urban, suburban, and rural land use.


Minimum Qualifications

* Three years of coursework in a landscape architecture, architecture, construction management, or a closely related field.
OR
* A combination of coursework towards a degree in AutoCad, Design Technology, Architectural Technology, Building Science/Technology, Construction Technology/Management, or a closely related program AND work experience using AutoCad to total 3 years.
AND
* Competency in AutoCad and Microsoft Excel.
AND
* A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Attention to fine detail and ability to think in three dimensions.
* Familiarity with Revit and manipulation and organization of .pdf and other file formats.


Duties & Responsibilities

These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

Under the direction of the Capital Projects Manager and project management staff, the person in this position may:

1. Update AutoCad files for all buildings and parks in our system
2. Add systems furniture information and layout to building floor plans
3. Field verifying actual current conditions at several sites around the county
4. Culling through and right size project permanent files

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities and Work Environment

* Knows key principles and practices relating to space planning and architecture with ability to apply this knowledge
* Given initial direction, can successfully complete tasks with a minimum of direct supervision
* Knows how to produce, track and store floor plan information in various formats
* Able to develop effective relationships with technical and project staff, and communicate with others in an office setting
* Excellent communication skills, oral and written
* Competency in computer programs including the Microsoft Suite of programs, AutoCad, Revit, etc.
* Able to effectively serve as a team member, demonstrate active listening, recognize team goals, and contribute insights and ideas
* Able to manage multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines

Work Environment/Work Location
This is a hybrid position that offers a mix of telework, in-person, and outdoor work on job sites. The office is located at the Government Center in Hastings, Minnesota. This position may require the ability to work outdoors in all weather and the ability to perform strenuous physical tasks on a daily basis.
