Job Description

UMKC's Conservatory of Music, Theater and Dance is seeking qualified applicants for a ranked non-tenure track faculty position to teach undergraduate and graduate piano and related courses. We seek people who will help build the future of education and research in the performing arts, faculty who demonstrate a growth mindset, with an understanding that learning is an ongoing process. We value faculty who believe that art has the power to help us understand ourselves, each other, and our culture while empowering us to move that culture forward. Qualified candidates will engage in work that appeals to, and positively impacts, the global population. They will work strategically in ways that adapt to the opportunities in their regions, and work within frameworks that embrace transdisciplinary possibilities.

This faculty member's workload responsibilities and duties will include:

* Teach all levels of keyboard literature

* Teach applied piano and coach chamber music for undergraduate and graduate students

* Oversee the keyboard skills curriculum and mentorship of GTAs

* Teach Keyboard Skills for piano majors

* Recruit and retain pianists from the undergraduate through doctoral levels.

* Contribute to the enhancement of all facets of the Keyboard Studies Division, including facilitating outreach projects

* Contribute to the academic and service environments characteristic of a conservatory within a university

* Enrich the cultural environment of the Kansas City metropolitan community

The applicant's CV and cover letter should demonstrate a multi-faceted approach to pedagogy and creative activities that impacts a global constituency.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a DMA in piano, possess a minimum of 5 years' experience teaching at the collegiate level, and have a demonstrated ability to recruit and work effectively with both graduate and undergraduate students.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary commensurate with qualifications, experience and background. This is a 9-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0) faculty appointment eligible for ranked promotion.
