General Information: The Center for Faculty Innovation (CFI) provides comprehensive professional development opportunities for JMU faculty at all levels and stages of their careers.
We are inviting graduate students to apply for our Marketing & Communications Specialist Graduate Assistantship position to assist our team with duties related to creating program advertisement, utilizing social media platforms and our website to promote professional development opportunities, general reception office duties and provide support for scheduled CFI programs.
* Normal business hours of 8am - 5pm (no weekends required) * Average of 4 hours per day, 5 days per week during the academic year (some flexibility) * On-campus, in-person position in a reception office environment setting Duties and Responsibilities: One (1) Marketing & Communications Specialist GA position is available for the 2025-26 academic calendar year with opportunity for up to a two-year placement.
Common GA duties may include * Utilize Social Media platforms and stay abreast of social media trends through Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. * Create posts on social media channels and maintain an active posting schedule of engaging, interactive content * Utilize Cascade, a content management website software, to make regular updates to the CFI website News' feed and provide backup support for general updates/postings on the CFI website: www.jmu.edu/cfi * Assist with creating short instructional videos in Vyond.com (a video software tool) for use as a training/learning tool * Utilize software on Mac/Windows operating platforms, such as MS Office 365 (including MS Teams & SharePoint) / Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere, Acrobat) / Cascade/ Canva.com) * Take photographs and short videos of CFI programs for use with program marketing * Assist the Operations team with support during CFI programs and events, including preparation, setup & cleanup, day of support * Provide customer service support for the CFI reception office through task related to visitors and the CFI team administrative needs * Assist with creating and updating office/program forms and documentation, including signage * Assist with supply inventory control and organization * Reports directly to the Program Administrator * Support the CFI office with other administrative and reception duties Qualifications: Required * Bachelor's Degree & Acceptance into a JMU Graduate Program Preferred * Knowledge of MS Office 365 (including MS Teams) / Canva.com / Social Media platforms (FaceBook, lnstagram, X, etc), * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Ability to process detailed work with accuracy and efficiency * Must have desire and ability to attend training with Cascade (web), QuestionPro (survey), MS Teams and other training as needed * Customer service and people skills to provide a welcoming environment * Must work physically in the office the required 20 hours per week during 8:00am- 5:00pm on a Monday through Friday schedule (flexible around the student's academic schedule), on weekdays each academic semester * Excellent organizational and time management skills * Knowledge of basic office practices helpful * Ability to learn technology applications quickly and efficiently Additional Posting Information: Applicants are required to submit a cover letter and a resume.

The student must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program. Students who are provisionally accepted will not be eligible until they achieve conditional or unconditional acceptance into their program.
The students must have an official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or agency
After receiving an assistantship, the student must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA in order to retain or reapply for the assistantship.
These are minimum criteria. Graduate program coordinators have the right to impose additional criteria if they see fit.
