Operates fabricating machines such as shears, press brakes, autobrake, turrets, forming machines, spinning machines, and punch, that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, and structures by performing the following duties. Essential Duties & Responsibilities* Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. * Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template. * Positions work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade. * Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine. * Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction. * Measures work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation, accurately reading measurement instruments. * Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece. * Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces. * Rivets and spot welds work pieces. * Endeavors to create a work environment that is enjoyable, engenders pride in the product and focus on the customer, and provides room for individual responsibilities and ideas. Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Ability:Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Math Ability:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
