GENERAL SUMMARY/PRIMARY FUNCTION

Responsible for prioritizing safety as our #1 critical success factor in all tasks performed by oneself and others. Assist in supervising and administrating corporate, division and project safety, accident prevention, environmental compliance and fire protection to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Collaborate with the District management team to control hazardous working conditions by interfacing with project management, supervisory, and field personnel. Attend project/client meetings to provide support.
  2. Arrange and deliver training for crew members on topics such as PPE usage, safe construction practices, Fall protection, Heavy Equipment operation (Scissor Lift and Forklift), LOTO, Stairways and Ladders, OSHA 30, Trenching/Excavations and Confined Spaces.
  3. Allocate approximately 60% of time in the field and


40% of time for Office/Admin tasks.

  1. Partner with third party administrators to conduct safety observation/audit visits and report findings.
  2. Respond to all Incidents (Injury, Illness, Auto, General Liability, Utility Strikes, Property Damage, Theft) to guide field supervision in incident management.
  3. Develop and maintain, site and client specific safety programs.
  4. Assist with the maintenance / of the Cosco Fleet Program GPS Software.
  5. Conduct thorough inspections of construction areas, identify, document and recommend mitigation for hazardous conditions, and ensure corrective actions are documented and implemented.
  6. Promote regulatory, organizational, and industry best practices to mitigate risk and exposure, while ensuring compliance with regulations.
  7. Develop and conduct Job Hazard Analysis for specific tasks with a focus on hazard recognition/correction.
  8. Collaborate with preconstruction service providers (e.g., ISNetworld, Avetta) and assist branches with Cosco Fire Client Safety Pre-qualification packets.
  9. Track, coordinate, and keep a record of employee safety training and all necessary retraining.
  10. Work within and support a collaborative team environment that supports field and project management operations to ensure the organization's mission, values, and goals.
  11. Conduct on-site project inspections ensuring company safety procedures are followed and implemented. A minimum of sixteen (16) documented monthly project inspections are required. Conduct thorough inspections of construction areas. Assist in identifying, documenting and recommending mitigation of hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions; follow through to ensure corrective actions have been implemented. Review and ensure participation from Superintendent/Foreman site inspections and advise of any areas where opportunities for improvements are needed? Review Superintendent/Foreman performed site inspections.
  12. Participate in the New Hire Safety Orientation Program.
  13. Collaborate with the Corporate Safety Director and divisional leadership on investigations of property damage, automobile incidents, and work-related injury/illness investigations.
  14. Conduct incident investigations along with foreman and assist in enhancing field understanding. (Near Misses, First Aids, Injuries, Illnesses, Property Damage and GL Claims)
  15. Possess knowledge of FED-OSHA and CA-OSHA standards, the Industrial Safety and Health Act as well as applicable consensus standards such as ASTM, ANSI and NESC.
  16. Accompany OSHA safety and health compliance officers on walk through tours as required.
  17. Transport equipment when necessary and ensure, as necessary, all permits, licenses, titles, safety checks, etc. as required by corporate policy, state or federal regulations, or client requirements.
  18. This position is required to have a valid driver's license.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned.



JOB CRITERIA

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Minimum 5 years' construction safety experience or equivalent combinations of training and related experience. Pipe Fitter experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of all federal, state, local, and company safety guidelines, rules and regulations required. Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures is essential.
  • Understanding of safe working practices as applied to Fire Protection installations and systems.



Required Certifications


  • Current OSHA 500 Train the Trainer Certification
  • OSHA 510 OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Up to date knowledge of NEC, CA-OSHA & Fed OSHA and NFPA 70E code and industry standards in Fire Alarm, Suppression Systems and Sprinkler Installations.
  • CHST certification preferred or achieved within 1 year.


KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES


  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Construction Safety standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational and supervisory skills


  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.
