Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time work experience in higher education. Administrative experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (or foreign equivalent) in the biological sciences, a closely related discipline, or in the areas of higher education and student affairs. Experience evaluating undergraduate academic progress and performance, such as tracking instructor records and/or course materials. Student-centered administrative experience in a college or university setting. Experience with Brightspace or a comparable LMS. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Applications (Chrome, Google Drive, Gmail). Experience with virtual meeting applications, such as Zoom.

Brief Description of Duties:
This position will provide administrative support to facilitate the delivery of courses offered by the Program in Undergraduate Biology. The principal efforts will be in support of the Introductory Biology Laboratory courses BIO 204, BIO 205 and BIO 207. These three courses are offered to approximately 2,000 students annually with offerings in the fall, spring and summer semesters. Effective delivery of these courses involves coordinating the efforts and interactions between three to four faculty course directors, approximately forty laboratory course section instructors, a similar number of undergraduate teaching assistants and students organized in up to 48 sections of 24 students each.



  • Facilitating communication between faculty course directors, section instructors, undergraduate TAs and students by managing a shared email inbox and collecting, organizing and sharing as needed hard copy student papers and instructional materials. The incumbent will also serve as the public-facing in-person contact in the mail Introductory Biology Laboratory office.
  • Support the Introductory Biology Laboratory courses by managing Brightspace sections for approximately 5 recitation and 40 laboratory course section in the fall and spring semesters and fewer, but multiple sections in the summer semesters, scheduling instructors for teaching, office hours, exam proctoring and grading meetings. The incumbent will coordinate recruitment and hiring of instructors and undergraduate TAs and organize undergraduate teaching assistants into groups supporting recitations, laboratory sections and course development projects.
  • Organize and maintain supplies for the Introductory Biology Laboratory course offices and the TA supply drawers in the Instructional Laboratory rooms.
  • Additional administrative support for the Undergraduate Biology Program, including but not limited to participation in the Biology Convocation Ceremony.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned appropriate to rank and department mission.



Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
