HR Generalist
Job Summary The anticipated duration of this temporary assignment is approximately 5 months. Will include optional medical benefits, holiday pay and sick leave accrual.

The position will work with teammates and client departments to facilitate their Human Resources business needs, be responsive, identify problems, assist with resolution of routine issues, and analyzes moderately complex issues to recommend solutions. The individual will also coordinate with schools, business units, and specialty centers to deliver efficient and effective personnel services, while ensuring compliance with UCSF policy and procedures. The HR Generalist 2 will be held accountable to high customer service standards, service level agreements and related metrics. The HR Generalist 2 will perform all duties with tact, discretion and according to confidentiality requirements
Key Responsibilities: * Provide telephonic and/or written detailed guidance to employees, supervisors and managers on all HR related questions: compensation programs, union contracts, personnel policies, and procedures and more. * Applies professional HR concepts when counseling employees concerning work-related issues of moderate scope and complexity. * Responsible for escalating issues to Staff Human Resources Supervisor. * Reviewing various HR requests specifically but not limited to new employee onboarding requests, timekeeping or payroll-related requests, analyzing and processing as appropriate; assisting Staff Generalists with needed HR tasks and in other related duties as assigned. * Support new hires, employees and department managers on issues related to Human Resources transactions, payroll, benefits, employee apparel program, HBS timekeeping, pay rates, etc. * Partner closely with Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Benefits and Leave Management, Occupational Health, Labor and Employee Relations, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Hitachi, HBS Processing Center, UCPath Center, Payroll and Campus Human Resources. * Troubleshoots issues and ensure completion of all new hire documentation within HR systems. * Under general supervision, develops knowledge based on current metrics to assist in building knowledge content for future use and develops templates for use in assisting customers more efficiently and effectively. * Under general supervision, provides advice and counsel to client groups according to established human resources policies and procedures. * Manages sensitive and confidential information and effectively and collaboratively interacts with client groups and all stakeholders. Department Description UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.
Required Qualifications * Strong verbal/written communication skills to provide excellent customer service * Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat * Ability to effectively utilize multiple systems, including HRIS web-based systems to perform daily work * Ability to work effectively in a team environment * Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information in a discrete and professional manner * Excellent organizational skills, ability to multitask and manage deadlines * Excellent customer service and organizational skills * Ability to utilize an applicant tracking or Human Resources System * Must be flexible to support various HR-related tasks as detailed above * 1 to 2 years of applicable work experience in Human Resources or a customer service-related role
Preferred Qualifications * Prior experience performing HR and/or payroll support for a high-volume department * Prior experience using Applicant Tracking Systems, CRM, and HRIS tools * Prior experience researching policies and union contracts * Specific knowledge and experience with Leave of Absence (LOA) * Experience with telephonic customer service * HR Certificate (PHR)
License/Certification
- Bachelor's Degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training
