This position focuses on mentoring medical and pharmacy residents in pharmacotherapy, with an emphasis on appropriate medication use, clinical decision-making, and staying current with evolving drug therapies. The specialist collaborates closely with the internal medicine residency program to enhance medical residents understanding of evidence-based medication management.In addition to the educational and collaborative responsibilities, the specialist provides direct patient care by conducting comprehensive medication reviews, ensuring appropriate medication selection, and monitoring for adverse effects or potential drug interactions. The pharmacist also develops individualized treatment plans for complex patients, educates them on their medications, promotes adherence strategies, and addresses issues related to medication access and affordability. Pharmacy Clinical Specialists proficiently provide direct patient-centered care and integrated pharmacy services in an ambulatory practice setting with physicians, nurses, and other health care personnel. These clinicians are aligned with target interdisciplinary programs and specialty services to deliver medication therapy management within specific patient care services and to ensure medication management is integrated throughout the institution. Summary In these clinical roles, Pharmacy Clinical Specialists participate in all necessary aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized care to the patients in their assigned areas. Pharmacy Clinical Specialists serve as a resources and subject matter expert in pharmaceutical care. The specialist also conducts clinical research and practice advancement projects, precept pharmacy learners, as well as patient care quality and regulatory compliance initiatives designed to improve medication-use processes pharmacy practice and patient care outcomes. The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist for the GME Internal Medicine Clinic is vital for advancing both resident education and patient care by guiding evidence-based pharmacotherapy, optimizing medication use, and improving outcomes through direct clinical practice and interdisciplinary collaboration. Requirements Education:Pharm.D from College of Pharmacy Accredited by American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy or equivalent clinical experience (to be evaluated on individual basis). Experience:Two years of clincial pharmacist experience required. Completion of pharmacy residency program preferred. Certification:Board certification in area of specialty or obtained within 18 months of employment required. License:State of Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Registered Pharmacist Licensure. Other:Strong communication and interpersonal skills, data entry skills, analytical and advanced math skills required. Ability to cope with confrontation. Ability to assist in the supervision and education of staff pharmacists and technicians. Specialty expertise in the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist area of practice (currently Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Pediatrics, Ambulatory Specialty Clinics or Skilled Nursing Facility Care).
