We are currently seeking a full-time BSA Generalist to join SDFCU. The BSA Generalist plays a critical role in detecting and preventing fraudulent and suspicious activities by analyzing, monitoring, and researching accounts flagged by Verafin alerts. This position requires a thorough review of reports, account details, and transaction data to identify potential risks. Findings and recommendations are reported to the BSA Specialist or the Director of Enterprise Risk Management & Compliance and shared with relevant departments as needed. Collaboration across departments is essential, as are strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, and teamwork skills. The BSA Generalist is expected to act in alignment with SDFCU's Core Values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitor Transactions

  • Review electronic fund transfers, wires, cash deposits, currency transaction reports, and other transaction types to identify unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Investigate and support actions to prevent fraud or resolve issues related to questionable activities.

Embassy Account Oversight

  • Track embassy accounts to ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements and identify any suspicious activity.
  • Provide weekly reports on embassy account activity and assist with investigations.

Verafin Alerts & Reporting

  • Analyze Verafin reports and alerts to spot potential Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and support the BSA Specialist with SAR review and filing.

Audit & Compliance Preparation

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Provide feedback to supervisors regarding teller line operations and member interactions.
  • Promote the credit union's positive image within the community

Research & Data Analysis

  1. Develop expertise in using various data reports and external resources like Chexsystems, Verafin, and OFAC databases for research purposes.
  2. Monitor and report any hits from the OFAC database.

Government & Employee Reporting

  • Respond to government inquiries regarding Patriot Act 314a and assist in creating and delivering BSA and fraud-related training for branch and member-facing personnel.
  • Answer internal inquiries related to BSA compliance and fraud prevention.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  1. Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field required
  2. Minimum of two years of experience within a financial institution
  3. Strong problem solving and organizational abilities with a high attention to detail
  4. Professional demeanor with excellent oral and written communication skills
  5. Ability to use discretion and sound decision-making in sensitive situations
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  7. Working knowledge of the Internet and ability to utilize investigative tools effectively
  8. Ability to analyze and interpret reports, legal documentation, and fraud-related material
  9. Understanding of basic mathematical concepts for calculations
  10. BSA certification preferred
