Youth Program Manager

The working schedule will be determined based on client needs.

The starting salary is $32-$34K, dependent on experience.

Summary/Primary Purpose: Coordinates the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of specific program(s) for youth between the ages of 6 and 18. Provides leadership and supervision to assigned program and volunteer staff; and controls expenses as assigned. Plans activities and facilitates programs for groups of youth in assigned Specific program areas. (STEM, STEAM, Art, Sports/Athletics. Aquatics, Education).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Serves as the day-to-day supervisor of all assigned program staff and volunteers; assigns and oversees daily duties of staff; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; provides input to performance evaluations; informs Youth Program Director of any staff issues requiring attention.
  • Opens and closes the Youth Program in compliance with established operating hours;
  • Provides leadership and constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner; exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.
  • Ensures staff has cleaned the kitchen, classrooms, tables, floors, in accordance with established sanitary standards; assists in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the Program facilities and grounds.
  • During Program hours, assumes role and responsibilities of Youth Program Director in his/her absence.
  • Ensures that teachers/program aides have lesson plans completed in a timely manner; assists teachers/program aides as they administer activities for school age children; ensures that activities are age appropriate, stimulating, fun and safe for the children; locates supplies for teachers/program aides to decorate rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.
  • Participates in the implementation of all activities in the Program; assists all staff and volunteers in maintaining the cleanliness of all facilities, equipment, and grounds.
  • Helps to organize special program events or field trips; advertises events appropriately; works in conjunction with appropriate departments for social media updates.
  • Implements educational, spiritual, and character-building programming within the structure of the programs set forth by the Director; provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.
  • Uses appropriate supplies and materials for recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same; maintains accountability and inventory of all recreational equipment; informs the Youth Director of any supply needs.
  • Collects all statistical information for all grants, and Divisional and Territorial in a timely manner as required by the Corps Officers and Youth Director; prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports in a timely manner (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, etc.).
  • Maintains the program materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for materials necessary for programs.
  • Reports all accidents to the Youth Director in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents.
  • Transports patrons and children to and from the Club; utilizing good driving habits at all times in order to ensure the safety of patrons and The Salvation Army vehicles.
  • Driving is an essential function of the role.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: Volunteer staff and Youth Workers.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree required.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft software to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, as well as the ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters.


Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:



  • Basic First Aid and CPR Certification (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
  • Trainer Certification or ability to obtain

Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying objects (50 lbs.)

Working Conditions: The work environment is a business office setting with office equipment, light traffic and moderate noise levels.
