Job Summary: The intern will assist with various Planning, Plant and Collections System engineering projects throughout the assignment. Assistance may include, but is not limited to:



  • Management of data and engineering evaluations
  • Assist with review of Project Clean Lake (Combined Sewer Overflow long-term control plan) program-level project schedules, costs, volume reduction and compliance
  • Assist in procurement of consultants including development of project Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Review invoices, progress reports and schedules
  • Review Basis of Design reports, drawings, specifications, geotechnical and other reports
  • Assist Project Managers (PMs) with consolidation of comments generated by review team
  • Distribute and track comment resolution as it pertains to project
  • Attend project meetings to review comments
  • Construction job site visits
  • Sharepoint/Kahua project file maintenance/management
  • Assist with PMs in designing improvements to the Collections System
  • Assist with continuous improvements to department workflows and processes
  • Assist with improvements to guidelines for Consultant drawing deliverables
  • Assist with design project closeout documents


1. Asset Management - Repair and Renewal Planning



  • Assist in the evaluation of the current repair and renewal planning approach
  • Evaluate the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) capabilities and completeness,
  • Identify data gaps in order to run repair and renewal reports,
  • Develop high level plan moving forward for implementation of repair and renewal planning


2. Asset Management - Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Planning Support



  • Assist in Business Risk Exposure scoring of projects nominated for the CIP
  • Assist in analysis of overall CIP cashflow and prioritization


3. Local MCIP Grant projects Rainfall Derived Inflow and Infiltration (RDII) analysis



  • Identify, document, collect, and track all required submittals by project type
  • Evaluate or perform RDII analysis of projects with available data


4. Collections Structural and Painting Improvements

5. GJM Security Enhancements - Construction Supervisor assistance

6. General Engineering Services RFP development

7. Southerly Electrical Repair Phase 2

8. Districtwide Roof Replacement No. 3

9. Project Clean Lake Collections System Projects



  • Big Creek Tunnel
  • Big Creek CSO Improvements Phase 2
  • Southerly Regulators and Relief Sewers
  • Kingsbury Asset Renewal
  • Southerly Tunnel Dewatering Pump Station
  • Easterly District Capacity Improvements
  • CSO 203 Relocation


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

Academic Status/Standing: Candidate must be enrolled in school or must have graduated within 24 months from the date of application.

Field of Study and Degree Program Levels: Declared Majors - Bachelors or Master/Doctoral Degree in Civil, Structural, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, or a related field of study.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:



  • Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the District's acceptable guidelines.
  • Candidate must be able to work a minimum of 12 up to 40 hours per week. Working hours are Monday - Friday during normal business hours.


The District requires protective footwear (i.e., steel or composite-toed) when working in the plants, pump stations, construction sites, public rights-of-way and other posted areas. New hires are required to have protective footwear, meeting the following criteria, on the first day of employment: 1) Must be ANSI Z41-1999 or ASTM F-2412/2413 (2005) certified, 2) Must have a steel or composite protective toe, 3) Must be, at a minimum, a 6" work boot or 6" hiker-style boot (Note: shoes are not permitted), 4) Must have a slip-resistant sole. It is also recommended, but not required, that footwear be waterproof and have included a shank to protect the bottom of the foot.
