Description
The EHS Specialist coordinates the compliance of air, water, and waste regulation for the facility. These regulations include CAA, CWA, RCRA, SARA, CERCLA, and state and city equivalents. The EHS Specialist is responsible for waste profiling and disposal, compliance inspections, agency reporting, and record keeping. The EHS Specialist provides technical support for plant projects to ensure that the Organization is aware of cost-effective compliance with applicable environmental statutes, regulations, and permits.

Job Details

Role Specific Responsibilities:
  • Communicates and promotes the EHS program on an ongoing basis
  • Characterizes, profiles, and coordinates the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes
  • Ensures that storage, handling, and removal of all wastes complies with applicable regulations in an efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Files a variety of reports in response to environmental permits and regulatory requirements. Reports are due monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually, biennially, and as other trigger events take place
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of applicable regulations and statutes and actively participates in internal company initiatives, as a team member or in a leadership role
  • Formulates compliance strategies, defines solutions, develops action plans, and can organize technical information
  • Provides technical expertise (engineering, chemistry, toxicology) and support to both internal and external customers
  • Tracks and generates a substantial understanding of specific local, state, and federal, including CERCLA, SARA, CAA, RCRA, and CWA
  • Participates in facility inspections and follow-up to assure compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Works closely with environmental contractors to facilitate appropriate tasks, manages and leads contractor relationships
  • Assists in the closure of action items from internal and external audits
  • Participates in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) as needed
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

  • Complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and arrangements
  • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly
  • Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

  • Active participation within continuous improvement activities
  • Participates in problem solving
  • Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business
  • Assists in the training, mentoring and assessment of other team members
  • Exercises autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance


Qualifications/Desired Skills

Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, and Health, or related technical field

Experience:
  • 3 years regulatory experience in a chemical manufacturing facility or equivalent
  • Experience wearing required PPE, including safety glasses, hard hat, steel toe shoes, gloves, and a respirator

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to flex own style as needed to influence and drive results
  • Ability to work within a multi-functional, global organizational structure and exhibits robust interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work within a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to execute strenuous, sometimes repetitive physical work such as lifting, to push or to pull objects up to 50 pounds, working outside in all weather conditions, climbing ladders, etc.
  • Excellent proficiency within Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
