JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Division of Science & Engineering at Penn State University Abington College seeks a full-time, non-tenure-line Lecturer (Master's) or Assistant Teaching Professor (Ph.D.) of Computer Science to begin August 15, 2025. This is a 36-week limited-term (single year) academic appointment, funded for one year from the date of hire with a strong possibility of appointment renewal for subsequent periods. This nine-month appointment comes with excellent fringe benefits that include retirement plans, health, dental, vision, and prescription drug insurance, reduced tuition rates for dependents, and optional long-term disability insurance. The review process will begin on February 21, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.

Candidates must have either an earned doctorate or master's degree in computer science or data science or related field by August 1, 2025 as well as at least 12 months experience teaching computer science/data science courses at the college/university level.The candidate must have experience in principles of programming languages, software design and object-oriented programming, and experience in teaching at least two of the following subjects: formal languages and their applications, data privacy and security, visual analytics, data integration, applied data science, probability and statistics, programming for big data, and database modeling.

The successful candidate will be expected to 1) teach twelve (12) contact hours per semester; 2) advise majors related to their discipline; 3) provide service to the Division and College; and 4) seek professional growth in their field.Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to teach students from diverse ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds and to foster student success through engagement both inside and outside the classroom. On-campus teaching and office hours are essential functions of the position.
