Summary
Garland Public Library is seeking a creative and energetic individual with a passion for serving the community to further the Library's mission and goals. Working with the Library's team, this position will provide programs, reference assistance, readers' advisory, and library services to the youth and families of the Garland community.Responsible for providing direct assistance to library patrons in reference, assisting with library programming, outreach services, periodical searches, and print and media use. Also responsible for assisting librarians with programming services. Pay Range: $18.00 - 27.00 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Work Schedule: Flexible schedule depending on outreach and engagement needs of up to 19 hours a week. Days, nights, and weekends are required. The position may also work at other Garland Library locations and participate in outreach events as needed. Physical Requirements / Work Environment The incumbent works in a typical library environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and some exposure to dust, but some physical labor and travel offsite may occur. Work assignment may be at any of the four library facilities and may vary, depending on departmental needs; reliable transportation will be needed. Physical tasks may include lifting, squatting, bending, stooping, walking, and carrying supplies, as needed, to accomplish the tasks of the activity on a daily basis. Must be able to reach materials at 90" height shelving or shelving at floor level, lift and carry materials, with the use of proper equipment, and push/pull full book carts. Must also be able to use keyboard and peripherals, operate a telephone, and communicate in person and over the telephone.
