Assistant Director of Communications and Outreach

Financial Aid

The ideal candidate will play a key strategic role in providing input to Financial Aid and Student Accounts for both undergraduate and graduate students. In this capacity, the individual will collaborate closely with Public Relations and Marketing Communications, as well as other campus stakeholders, to maintain consistency in messaging to students across various communication channels, including web/online, email, social media, and print formats. The position will also have oversight of the utilization of Salesforce, our customer relationship management (CRM) system, and Marketing Cloud. These tools will be employed to effectively communicate critical steps and deadlines to students, with the goal of encouraging and assisting them through Student Financial Services processes.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

Provides strategic direction and oversight for all communication plans, including planning and implementation of strategic communications using the Marketing Cloud CRM system. This responsibility reports to the Director of Student Financial Management Center and collaborates with the Director of Marketing and Communication for Enrollment Management.

Write, edit, and publish content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns. Provide project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans. Create and maintain a Student Financial Services communication and webinar calendar and communicate with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources. Plan editorial content according to established goals and objectives.

Ensure Compliance: Administer the Consumer Information regulations for federal and state financial aid programs administered by Student Financial Services to ensure compliance. Maintains up to date with federal and state regulatory updates, impact reports, financial aid literature, training manuals, audit guides, institutional reports, professional publications (e.g., Student Aid News, NASFAA Journal, Chronicle of Higher Education, NACUBO).

Collaborate Across Campus: Collaborates with campus stakeholders to identify and implement interventions that directly support enrollment, retention, and matriculation of students. Work with the Scholarship Literacy Center, GSU Public Relations, Marketing, & Communication, Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions, GSU Chatbot, and others to manage and maintain email, text message, website, social media, and other student communications pertaining to Student Financial Services. Develop outcomes and produce an evaluation of effectiveness for campaigns via analytics and report to all stakeholders as needed.

Manage and Improve Student Financial Services Communication Processes: Keep up with industry best practices and maintain/enhance skill level by participating in professional development opportunities, including professional conferences, skills training, and campus-wide communities of practice. Identify both long-term and short-term priorities, projects, and timelines aligned with communication cycles. Manage multiple concurrent communications projects of varying scope.

Manage vendor relationships pertaining to communications. Trellis, Ocelot, Campus Logic, Salesforce Knowledge Base. Become familiar with other stakeholder platforms such as Main Stay, and Slate as needed. Collaborate with the Technology and Research Team to create filters and mine data to communicate to students using the Marketing Cloud CRM.

Student Communication Team

Supervise, support, and mentor the Student Communication Team. This role will have a unique opportunity to develop and design a student worker communication team to assist with calling campaigns, chatbots, and outreach activities.

Assist with Onboarding and Training:

Work with the Business Manager to manage the onboarding and training of new Student Financial Services Staff members. Collaborate with the SFS Training Team to provide content for training materials used for onboarding and current staff continued education and professional development.

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field and three years of supervisory/managerial related experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Firm understanding of web technologies, applications and analytics, including social networking, social media tools and current communication trends (including video and mobile).

* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

* Ability to demonstrate excellent, effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

* Extensive experience developing comprehensive communication flows.

* Knowledge in creating data filters and data mining. Use advanced Excel skills to analyze/review student data for strategic communications, outreach and internal business processes. This includes use of pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and multiple university systems. SQL script writing abilities preferred.

* Proven analytical and creative ability to address targeted messages to a variety of audiences.

* Possess working knowledge of the admissions process and university policies.

* Ability to develop strong working relationships with various constituencies.

* Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

* Familiarity with technologies including on-line student financial services systems and client relationship systems.
