The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) supports a community of over 20,000 students and scholars with all their immigration-related needs, providing advisory and documentation services and information on a host of issues.

The ISSO also oversees a series of programming initiatives, including social and cultural events, as well as professional skill-building and leadership development programs specifically tailored for international students, faculty, researchers, and their accompanying dependents. We are looking for an enthusiastic and strategic international education programming specialist with proven experience in coordinating, supporting, and managing effective and enriching programs and events to support the adjustment, success, belonging, and professional and leadership development of Columbia's international community.

Responsibilities

Program Administration and Support



  • Support ISSO programming efforts by managing all of the logistics and operations, helping to identify learning needs, managing resources, serving as frontline customer service and support, and delivering and conducting program and presenter evaluations.
  • Serve as project coordinator and lead in the design and development of operating procedures, and evaluations, and identify ways to continuously improve the program operations and outcomes.
  • Assist with planning, preparation, and delivery of all ISSO in-person and virtual learning orientation and extended orientation events, ISSO Professional Leadership Development Programming, workshops and other ISSO programming initiatives.
  • Lead the ISSO programming team on program support elements to ensure well-orchestrated, professional, safe, and successful programs and learning opportunities for all involved.
  • Co-facilitate onboarding for all ISSO programming team student workers and manage student worker shifts.
  • Manage quality control and consistent branding of all ISSO programming content within LMS, online, and in-person.
  • Manage the data, reports, and budgets necessary for the ISSO programming team operations and planning.


Program Marketing and Communications



  • Develop and implement a marketing and communication strategy that promotes all ISSO programming efforts, in collaboration with Assistant Directors and Associate Director.
  • Support the development of appropriate ISSO programming team social media posts and messaging. Execute ISSO programming team social media campaign in collaboration with ISSO communications team.
  • Manage the ISSO programming web pages, including event registration pages.
  • Coordinate with other CU and individual school communication and outreach to cross-promote specific programs targeted at international student success.


Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested



  • Support the ISSO programming team on a full portfolio of programming, events, and initiatives.
  • Represent ISSO at other CU programs, events, meetings, and other, organizations, and groups.
  • Host open office hours for all student inquiries, including addressing and advising student inquiries related to programming in a timely manner. Escalate urgent issues to Associate Director.
  • Partner and consult with Associate Director and internal departments to create and deliver work plans.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of International Student Services.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in related experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional work experience in international education, student life/programming, teaching, and/or related fields.
  • Experiences in working with student program design and development and student groups, and student development.
  • Proficient in student development theories, instructional design, and adult learning theories.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Drupal, and Web-based applications.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, plan, organize, and effectively manage time.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Advanced degree in Education, Adult Learning, Instructional Design, Higher Education, or another tertiary curriculum design and program development field.
  • Experience with international students and working with diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in at least one foreign language.
  • Experience living abroad.
  • Experience working in Canvas.
