Position Summary:
The
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at the New Jersey Institute of
Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a University Lecturer or Senior
University Lecturer position in mechanical engineering. This is a full-time teaching appointment whose essential
function is to teach and develop undergraduate
courses in mechanical engineering with an
emphasis on, but not limited to: mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials
science, design, and structural analysis. The successful candidate should
demonstrate a commitment to educational excellence in a public university with
a diverse student body.
Essential Functions:
Candidates
are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in
mechanical engineering as well as provide service to the program,
department, university, and profession.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Applicants
are expected to have a doctorate degree in mechanical engineering or a related
discipline.
- Candidates should possess a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering
and the engineering design process.
- Candidates must demonstrate clear potential
for excellence in teaching and mentoring.
- Candidates are expected to contribute
to other department services. Professional practice experience is desirable.
- At the university's discretion,
the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate
can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent
combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate
for success in the position.

the department:
The
Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department in the Newark College of
Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology is an advanced
research-active department. Research thrust areas include Biomechanics,
computational fluid mechanics, biomedical devices, robotics, controls and
automation, smart materials, mechanics of complex materials, advanced energy
systems, thermal-fluid systems, climate modeling, computer aided design,
machine learning, supply chain and operations research. Our department features
30 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 6 teaching faculty who contribute
significantly to our educational excellence and mission. Our department
accommodates an impressive student body of 1,200 individuals, making us one of
the largest academic departments in the Newark College of Engineering at NJIT.
Our offerings include 24 graduate MS, PhD, and certificate programs, as well as
undergraduate majors in mechanical engineering (ME) and industrial engineering
(IE). Our department thrives with a vibrant community of student groups, including
ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), IISE (Institute of Industrial
and Systems Engineers), Baja SAE, and Robotics Club among others. MIE research
projects are funded by NSF, other federal agencies, NJ state, industry and
private foundations.
