Technician - Computerized Tomography (CT) The CT Technologist performs a variety of imaging procedures in and outside the Imaging department, providing specialized scanning utilizing appropriate techniques and protocols and performing general radiology and fluoroscopic procedures. CT Technologist performs under the general direction of a Radiologist and Imaging department leadership. The CT Technologist is responsible for demonstrating Service Excellence while providing safe, quality patient care for all patients receiving imaging services. This includes, but not limited to, capturing optimal images, collaboration with clinical team members, assisting the physician in the diagnosis of the patient's condition or health complaint, and other duties as necessary to facilitate Imaging service delivery.

Essential Job Duties

  • Operate CT, fluoroscopic, and radiographic equipment.
  • Analyze body habitus to correctly adjust technical factors or select appropriate exam on each piece of equipment.
  • Position the body correctly according to the protocol selected.
  • Review physicians written or electronic orders and obtain pertinent clinical data to include but not limited to laboratory results.
  • Produce high-quality images and reduce unnecessary radiation to patients and oneself by practicing As Low as Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) during all exams.
  • Administer contrast material as directed by manufacturer recommendations and protocol requirements.
  • Ability to perform Quality Control checks on equipment to include but not limited to, phantom testing.
  • Demonstrate startup and correct emergency shutdown procedures on all equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines
  • Use Safe Patient Handling equipment to ensure compliance with safe operational practices
  • Identify patients with established hospital policies using two unique patient identifiers.
  • Explain procedure in laymen's terms when necessary. Allow patient feedback and questions to ensure all questions are addressed prior to exam start.
  • Use critical thinking skills in a fast environment to care for all patient types.
  • Assists the radiologist during procedures
  • Follow facility policy and procedures for contrast reactions
  • Keep open lines of communication with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff.
  • Alert Radiologists when critical to read exam immediately
  • Ensure contrast forms and consent forms are complete when appropriate
  • Competency in navigating and using Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Proficiency in the facility's electronic medical record (EMR) to include but not limited to the management of exams, complete universal protocol, reviewing lab results, report dose and any other pertinent patient information needed to complete procedure.
  • Complete Healthcare Peer Review Report (HPRR) in hospital program for any other incident regarding patient safety events, including contrast extravasations.
  • Reports equipment error to Biomed, Imaging Supervisor and House Supervisor.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and ensures rooms are fully stocked and ready for the next exam and shift.
  • Ensure complete handoff is given to next shift regarding equipment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Diploma from a certified school of radiologic technology.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Active California Radiology Technologist (CRT) license required
  • Computerized Tomography certification ARRT (CT) required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Fluoroscopy license required
  • Active American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) license required
  • Venipuncture certification required

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum one-year experience as a CT Technologist preferred.
  • Experience in an acute care facility preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ensures compliance with CDPH, CMS, DNV, The Joint Commission and Title 22 standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates compliance with hospital policies and procedures at all times.
  • Ability to set priorities and appropriately organize workload and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to clinical personnel and medical staff, as well as ability to interact well with the public.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Imaging Lead /Manager/Director including, but not limited to: stocking rooms, maintaining clean work area, transporting patients, training new employees, call in colleagues, burning disks and complete mandatory training on equipment
  • Completed department orientation
  • Attend huddles and department meetings regularly
  • Complete annual competencies, including but not limited to Annual Competency Education (ACE), Purified Protein Derivative (PPD) and Fit testing, flu shot or declination and Learning Management System (LMS) modules.
  • Keep patient information confidential to not breach Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA). You may not access your own or a family member's records.
  • Able to take CT/x-ray call and work holidays per department requirements and needs.
  • Ability to perform CT, fluoroscopy, and radiology exams independently.
  • Ability to follow physician's orders.
  • Ability to administer contrast material as prescribed or required by protocol.
  • Ability to be proficient in Radiology related computer skills.
  • Familiar with cross-sectional anatomy and able to QA/QC images.
