We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a full-time Research Assistant position in the Translational Research Lab (TRL) in the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital. We are an interdisciplinary translational research team developing new treatments for critical care medicine including injectable oxygen, and novel gas therapies.

This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:

  • Perform small animal surgical procedures to evaluate the safety and efficacy of new therapeutics under the supervision of PIs.
  • Perform routine material fabrication and bioassays using lab protocols.
  • Take part in large animal research technician, including basic large animal husbandry, pre-surgical planning, instrument preparation, assisting intra-operative procedures, and post-operative management.
  • Compile and analyze relevant physiological and experimental data; maintain accurate and detailed documentation of experimental procedure and results; Assist with the approval for IACUC protocols, including protocol drafting and revisions.
  • Shared lab upkeeping responsibilities, including maintaining inventory of supplies and medicine, assisting in onboarding of new staff, and attending monthly lab support and safety meetings.
  • Carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols.
  • Conducts literature searches and reviews, compiling information for journals and suggesting uses for new techniques to the P.I.
  • Attends courses, lectures, and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.
  • Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.

In order to qualify, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in STEM with a focus on Animal Science, Physiology, Biology, Chemistry or a closely related field.
  • Must be comfortable working and handling common lab animals including but not limited to mice, rats, rabbits, and swine.
  • Prior research experience in a wet lab including tissue culture experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • The ability to accurately carry out protocols with an emphasis on attention to detail, and good record keeping.
  • Open-mindedness, good communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    Willingness and curiosity to learn new skills and unfamiliar techniques
  • A two-year time commitment is preferred.
