Position Summary

The Prepress Operator Lead will help oversee a team of Prepress Operators. The lead will ensure that the team properly analyzes file content, performs needed prepress functions and workflows. The lead will be accountable for training junior, Prepress Operators and general oversight of projects. The Prepress Team Lead must thrive in a professional, fast-paced environment, and lead a team across multiple projects. Able to exercise a high level of discretion and latitude with information shared.

Essential Responsibilities, Accountabilities & Results



  • Thoroughly understands the expectations of the customers, design pathways and connections to consistently meet or exceed those expectations, train and supervise staff in the proper execution of these pathways
  • Facilitates the establishment of standardized work to ensure a quality production process that achieves customer's goals, and ensures our profitability
  • Recommend technology and equipment that may improve processes
  • Train and mentor Prepress team to meet standards and procedures
  • Assign and monitor work as needed
  • Review job ticket instructions to determine requirements of job production and provide any necessary feedback to PM as needed
  • Quality control work performed following the internal and external department standard procedures and assist in investigating quality issues as requested by management as needed
  • Reviews the work of junior Prepress Operators
  • Collaborate with co-workers to ensure projects are completed properly and on time
  • Update Management & Project Manager regarding job(s) status that are in jeopardy of being on time
  • Attend and provide input for any necessary meetings when required or requested
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of written procedures and masters for all existing and new clients
  • Participate in process improvement efforts and various production meetings to foster a positive creative impact on the business
  • Review and coordinate overtime necessity for daily and weekend needs. Make sure weekend overtime sheets are filled out, work with Production Manager for the amount of overtime needed. Turn in weekend overtime sheet to Production Manager by 1 pm on Fridays.
  • Communicate any personnel, equipment or department issues or concerns to the Production Manager



Competency Requirements



  • Professional experience using Artpro+, Esko Software and the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience of applying print standards to prepress files
  • Understanding of file types used in print and in digital applications



Educational & Experience Minimum Requirements



  • Some College/associate degree or Trade school certificate in Graphic Arts/Printing preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in digital pre-press
  • Thorough understanding and familiarity of the software/hardware used at facility
  • Previous workflow engineering, job planning experience in a digital prepress environment
  • Effective communication and training skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $52,236 - $65,295. Ultimately, in determining pay, we will consider the successful candidate's location, experience, and other job-related factors.
