BENEFITS: A bank of 5 (8-hour) sick days and one (8-hour) personal day. No accrual of sick or personal days.
College fees will be paid for by the City, but you will have to maintain passing grades as well as display grades when requested. Copies of grades and receipts from books and tuition will need to be submitted to the Human Resources Department for reimbursement.
IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES:
A Police Cadet is not expected to have prior experience but is expected to have an interest in a career in modern policing. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, in person, via telephone, and in writing. Be courteous and customer-service oriented. Ability to accurately record information - by hand and using a computer - file records and process paperwork. Ability to take direction from supervisors. Maintain a positive attitude, have good moral character, be honest, responsible and trustworthy. Motivated and able to complete the required law enforcement related educational, training and physical fitness programs.
MENTAL/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, to include overtime, emergency call back, shift work, nights, holidays and weekends to accommodate City needs. May work in extreme cold and outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, electrical hazards, vibrations, inadequate lighting, intense noises and travel. Requires feeling, finger dexterity, grasping, hearing, repetitive motions, seeing, talking, bending, kneeling, lifting, reaching, standing, stooping, walking, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, pulling and pushing. Lifting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Must complete 24 college credits prior to completion of the Police Cadet program and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
