About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants has an immediate opening for an SWPPP Inspector (HR Title= Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist) to support a variety of infrastructure related projects out of our Sheridan, Wyoming office. Project sites will likely be in the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana, and provide SWPPP and regulation inspections for multiple industries.

The position will be a regular status, full time position, with benefits. This is a field-based position with the expectation that the individual in this role will be traveling to, or at, field sites at up to 85% of the time. We will also seriously consider highly qualified candidates in neighboring locations who can easily travel to our field sites.

What you will accomplish

  • Complete routine SWPPP and reclamation inspections in accordance with approved permits and applicable state and federal regulations across in Montana and Wyoming.
  • Assist team and clients in ensuring regulatory compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Provide SWPPP and reclamation inspections for oil and gas, transportation, renewable energy, transmission, and pipeline clients.
  • Provide recommendations for installation and maintenance of BMPs, erosion control devices (ECDs), and environmental exclusion areas during construction.
  • Use topographic maps, GPS units, aerial photographs, and other maps and tools in the field.
  • Provide general environmental support for projects throughout Wyoming and Montana.
  • Adhere to the safety program and looks out for the safety of others, promptly communicating and mitigating safety hazards
  • For Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist, responsibilities could include:
    • Supervise a small crew while conducting environmental fieldwork.
    • Independently assigning and directing the activities of others on behalf of SWCA, often in remote areas without immediate guidance from senior managers, to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
    • Ensuring that employees understand their responsibilities and delegated tasks and being held accountable if crew members under your supervision are not performing their activities correctly, productively, and safely.
    • Serving as a conduit of communication between employees and senior managers, including communicating issues to relevant senior managers.
    • Receiving and resolving complaints from employees in the field.
    • Monitoring team productivity and offering timely performance guidance, including determining when correction action is needed and delivering appropriate feedback.

Experience and qualifications for success

REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in environmental compliance work
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or related field, helpful
  • Able to inspect pipelines and oil & gas and transmission related facilities.
  • Familiar with soil erosion control and BMP installation and maintenance.
  • Able to work in remote areas, use ATVs or other four-wheel drive type vehicles.
  • Must have a clean driving record and pass a background check.
  • Those with additional environmental monitoring experience are encouraged to apply.

An Assistant Staff Compliance Specialist in this Wyoming based position can expect an hourly rate of $23.92 - $30.68/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
