Job Description

We are seeking candidates for a Sr. Research Specialist position in the Comparative Internal Medicine Laboratory and the Comparative Oncology Radiobiology and Epigenetics Laboratory in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the CVM's overall goals through collaborative research and management of immunology-related projects of large animal species/companion animals in the Comparative Internal Medicine Laboratory and the Comparative Oncology Radiobiology and Epigenetics Laboratory. He/she may be expected to supervise other laboratory personnel including technicians, fellows, and undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.

We seek candidates with prior experience in the following:

  • Laboratory techniques that may include (but not limited to) flow cytometry, ELISA/ELISPOT, Real-time PCR, western blot, light and fluorescence microscopy, and cell culture.
  • Use of computer software for flow cytometric analysis, primer design, real-time PCR quantification analysis, Microsoft Office, and statistical analysis.
  • Execution of literature searches to identify and implement new laboratory techniques.
  • Adaption of existing protocols or development of de novo immunologic assays that can be used in the assessment of a variety of spontaneous and induced immune-mediated, inflammatory, neoplastic or immunodeficiency disorders of companion animals.

The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery is dedicated to developing and disseminating knowledge to improve the health and well-being of animals and people through instruction, innovative research, service, and leadership. The department is home to the college's Veterinary Health Center where our faculty provide clinical care, teach, and develop innovative treatments and therapies.

Shift

Typical work hours for this position will be standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 8a to 5p) with some flexibility as needed to according to current research activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Doctoral level) in a relevant scientific field.
  • Prior laboratory experience; particularly in a comparative medicine, biomedical, or veterinary medical setting.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $51,875 to $65,000 annually
Grade: GGS-9E
