What we are looking for

Are you looking for a career that will make an impact globally and within your local community? SCS is on the forefront of developing sustainable environmental protection practices by working with industry and regulatory agencies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and optimize operations at solid waste facilities.

At SCS, our workplace culture is guided by three core principles; trust, care, and grow. We are searching for an Entry-Level Engineer for our Harrisburg Landfill Gas (LFG) Engineering Team who seeks to advance their career through training, mentoring, and experience in the field and office. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, team-focused, and ready to learn.

The Entry-Level Engineer will provide engineering/design support to the Harrisburg LFG Engineering Team within our existing solid waste practice which is focused on providing engineering services to private and municipal clients in the landfill, landfill gas, and solid waste management industries. Potential projects include landfill gas collection system design, data analysis, air pollution control design, air quality monitoring, Title V compliance reporting, permitting, and on-site construction oversight.

How you can make an impact

You will support environmental project work including:

Landfill gas collection and control system design, including construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Use AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and AutoCAD Plant3D for design plans/figures, including 3D modeling of process piping systems, generating construction level site plans, and construction level details.
  • Landfill gas data analysis, including reviewing compliance data, monitoring trends and evaluating wellfield performance.
  • On-site construction quality assurance (CQA) to provide construction monitoring of LFG collection and control systems throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, and New York. Approximately 20% travel is required in 3-6 week increments for the first year (on site 3-6 weeks then back home for 3-6 months). Local fieldwork may be substituted at the manager's discretion, as available. We believe that time on site is imperative for the technical development of young engineers.
  • Monitor drilling activities involving well installation, borehole logging, and act as liaison between engineer, construction contractor, and owner.
  • Independently coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and clients with project manager support and oversite.
  • Prepare solid waste facility and environmental control system infrastructure permit applications and/or regulatory agency submittals and develop responses with supporting documentation and engineering analysis.
  • Prepare construction quality assurance documentation for submittal to regulatory agencies.
  • Complete quality control reviews on work products (reports, design plans, design calculations, data, etc.) prior to submission.
  • Prepare calculations in support of design documents and reports as requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related major required.
  • Preference for individuals with at least 3 months of relevant solid waste, environmental, engineering internship, work, and/or research/educational experience.
  • Ability to learn AutoCAD is required.
  • Strong preference for individuals who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
  • Valid Driver's License with a driving record in good standing required.
