Responsibilities

Peraton Labs is seeking a talented Network and Field Operations Engineer to join our high performing team. This position is onsite and requires travel to several customer supported sites. Must be able to work onsite at least three days a week.

Network and Field Operations Engineers provide network development and management as well as conduct installation deployment and provide product sustainment support for on-site network configurations, hardware, and software. They design and plan network communications systems and are responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options and support current DevOps systems. They implement enhancements and upgrades to the network and maintain technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, firewalls, bridges, gateways, etc. They also are technical advisors and trainers for site-specific equipment and software deployment. They will help troubleshoot, repair, or recommend corrective actions for deployment specific operations.

What You'll Do - Network Administration:

    Provide for the design, engineering, technical documentation, configuration, implementation, troubleshooting, and repair of network systems (routing, switching, firewall, etc.) in a development and production environment.
  • Work in a dynamic environment, requiring professional and effective interactions and communications.
  • Monitor the networks using approved network management tools for system outages as well as bottlenecks in performance; recommend improvements to project management team.
  • Explain technical concepts to non-technical personnel through written documentation as well as verbal visual methods.
  • Be comfortable working individually or in small teams on several projects.
  • Deploy and install required hardware and software assets to customer sites.
  • Configure and document all deployment assets in a production environment.
  • Implement required hardware and software upgrades and repairs to maintain mission capability.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues.


Qualifications

Required Education/Skills:

  • 2 years with BS/BA; 0 years with MS/MA; 6 years with no degree.
  • Able to read and understand a network infrastructure diagram.
  • Linux/Command Line Terminal familiarity with scripting (Bash/Python) experience.
  • Network device (e.g., Cisco, Garland, Juniper, Dell, etc.) experience.
  • Wireshark experience.
  • Experience with the installation, configuration, integration and management of routers, switches, aggregators, servers, etc.
  • Knowledge and skills in the fundamentals of IP and core IP technologies as well as networking and application protocols.
  • Able to lift equipment over 50 lbs.
  • U.S. Citizenship with valid US driver's license and ability to acquire a US Passport.
  • Secret Clearance with the ability to acquire a TS/SCI and obtain/pass a polygraph.

Desired Skills:

  • CCNA/CCNP certification or several years of experience with Cisco Network devices.
  • Network administrator experience.
  • Proper handling of network hardware: running cables, cable crimping, usage of SFPs, and fiber networking standards.
  • Network tapping and aggregator experience.
  • Experienced network protocols understanding.
  • Network mapping and network map validation using tools like Visio and Draw.io.
  • Coding experience with Python or OOP language.
  • Docker and ELK stack experience.
  • A current TS/SCI clearance and the ability to obtain/pass a polygraph.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
