Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Processing Maintenance Lead provides front line safety and engagement-based leadership to achieve top tier safety and production results through maintaining Buffalo's production systems. The Maintenance Lead is responsible for building capability in and delivering support to system area owners as well as shift team members supporting plant operations. The Maintenance Lead works to eliminate losses following a rigorous daily process that is data driven and focused on root cause elimination. The Maintenance Lead is accountable to improve the reliability of the systems through ownership in defect handling, breakdown elimination, planning, and scheduling of preventative maintenance, and leveraging continuous improvement tools. The Maintenance Lead is the Planned Maintenance (PM) System owner for their areas.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership

  • Build capability of the maintenance team and technicians to understand their equipment at component level in addition to identifying and resolving defects and improving asset life
  • Leads portions of the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly DDS (daily direction setting) meetings, including:
    • Daily reporting and prioritization of defects found/ fixed as well as total backlog.
    • Daily reporting of breakdowns as well as initiation and execution of Breakdown Elimination
    • Contribute to development and execution of the plan for the day
    • Weekly BE dice chart overview and development of line team and technicians through sharing and educating BE learnings
    • Weekly tracking and reporting of maintenance measurement data - Backlog, MTTC, PM Completion (Indicators of health of P&S system)
  • Analysis of equipment performance and improving component life
  • Identifies and address safety risks related to maintenance activities (standard and non-standard) and prioritizing safety risks identified through the quick risk prediction tool
  • Collaborates across multiple departments and teams to execute planned and unplanned maintenance work during normal production, planned stops and plant shutdowns
  • Deliver spring plan M/R Costs for production related maintenance activities (Materials, Services, OT)
  • Works with outside vendors and contractors to secure accurate spare parts and execute work in a dynamically scheduled production environment

Foundational Systems

  • Maximo data integrity and adherence to Maximo standards
  • Health of DH system: Leads documentation of standards and coaches the maintenance team and technicians through the identification, prioritization, and resolution of defects
  • Breakdown Elimination: Identification of triggers, tracking of BE's through dice chart, ensuring completion of BE's and implementation of countermeasures
  • Planning & Scheduling: Plans, schedules, and assigns all work (CM and PM) for the line prioritizing as it relates to addressing top stops/ losses. Including shutdown maintenance planning and scheduling

Loss Elimination

  • Leads execution of any 90-Day improvement plan items to deliver glidepath through loss elimination
  • Leads plant and company initiatives to deliver cost savings for the business

People Leadership

  • Manage the shift:
    • Daily scheduling and staffing
    • Directing work of mechanics and electricians
    • Shift hand-offs
    • Workbrain/Workday team member management
    • Onboarding of new team members
    • Team Development
    • Pay and Performance management and incentives
    • Own accuracy and timeliness of performance metrics for shift
    • Execution of shift specific improvement plan actions
    • Coordination and execution of planned stops and shutdown activities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of maintenance leadership experience
  • Proven strong leadership skills in visualizing end results and implementing strategies
  • Willing to take risks in decision-making and implementation of improvements
  • Desire and ability to lead change in a fast-paced, complex manufacturing environment
  • Ability to identify training needs of maintenance mechanics
  • Strong people skills, including verbal, written, electronic, listening and feedback communications
  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting work priorities, ambiguity, adversity, and change
  • Ability to motivate team members and to help them develop pride and ownership
  • Ability to train, coach and develop team members in problem solving activities
  • Demonstrated understanding of maintenance skills including lubrication, welding, machining, materials, basic electrical, and machine repair
  • Working knowledge of CMMS (Maximo) systems
  • Strong planning, organization, and prioritization skills with practical knowledge of Planning & Scheduling
  • Strong proficiency in computer skills to include of Microsoft Office Applications, specifically, PowerPoint, Excel and the creation of spreadsheets and analysis of large sets of data
  • Good application of business judgement in decision making to achieve department and plant objectives
  • Practical experience with Continuous Improvement (CI) tools
  • Willingness to work weekends or alternative shifts as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • City of Buffalo Stationary Engineers License (1st class or above)
  • Working knowledge of FSA Teams
  • Experience in a Union environment
  • Electrical or controls background
  • Working knowledge of Boilers
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems
  • Working knowledge of Ammonia systems
  • Prior maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing plant

  • International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $68700.00 - $103200.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
